Can anyone recommend a good condenser microphone that's around $130?

Sure.

What are you going to use it for? Combat weapon or paperweight? Or are you perhaps using it (gasp) to record something? If so, please do tell its intended porpoise? That stuff matters.

If the answer is "combat weapon" then I'd skip condensers and go for an SM58.

On the other hand, if it's for recording, Armistice is right to ask about what sort of things you want to record!

I can recommend the akg d12 as a paperweight. Sadly, I have two of them.

I am going to pretend ^^^ comments are not there,, I mainly use it for vocals, Rap/Hip-Hop Vocals.

Do you mean not working? I have 1 and use it all the time on kick, usually out live on PA system.

Oh yeah, they're broken.

Didn't mean they're a paperweight as a working mic!! May Dave strike me down. :p

Check out the MXL v67g. It's great for price. (Plus it looks sexy :D)

I actually use mine on Kick Drum (outside) and guitar cabs sometimes. They do actually sound good on vocals but I have more expensive mics for that, but well worth the money.

Cool! Do you use it on the resonant head or do you use it for some extra beater? Haha yeah I've got more expensive mics too, but for the price the v67g is pretty awesome.

I use it out front (resonant head or where it would be if not fitted) about 4" to 6" depending on the actual drum. I use a AKG D112 inside. You sometimes have to move the distance around to correct phase issues or flip the phase on one of the mics (whichever sounds best).

My favourite mic for this was a AKG C4000b, but I like this on bass cabs (I often track live rhythm sections so lots of mics needed), I then tried a few different mics for the job and found the VV67G sounded really good and I now like it better then the C4000B for kick. I sometimes don't use the D112 channel at all during mix down, but it depends what kick sound you are after. This just proves that you should try all kinds of mics for different jobs not just what they were recommend for.

My standard vocal mic recommendations are;

sE X1 and sE2200a (the older silver 2200a is probably cheaper than then new fancy MKii version but just as good)
Gauge ECM-87
Avantone CK6

As a UK kid i'm not 100% on the US prices (except the gauge which is $149) but i think they're all around your price range (or like 10 or 20 bucks more, but well worth it)

I do the same thing but with an sE Titan. Depending on the style of the track depends on the mix between the two but, to me, this is the role in which the titan really shines.

Haha the titan is in a different price bracket than the V67g but.

tfb, the difference isn't as much as it was when they first came out. I'm not sure why the price dropped from it's original £999 but we picked up a titan new for £279 (and this was why i jumped at buying it :D). granted, that's a £100 more the mxl (which, tbh, i had confused with the V69 when reading the above  ) but it's no longer a million miles away ;)
