best method to get rid of bass "ringing harmonics"

Im recording a fender precision thru mackie 24-4 vlz pro (b4 eq) for a preamp and if i hit an A on the E string, then lift the finger on the string i get a ringing harmonic......this is reall bugging me as it muddies it up. I tried the gate, but its so far above the noise floor the gate isn't the solution.......do I just do this with eq? should i do it b4 recording, or later?

This is a performance issue.You can control it with the side of your finger.

I agree with Tom you roll your finger that might work. I have the same thing happen in different joints I play in. It is always the A note. Later, Donny!!!

yep, tried a little change in technique (hell, them's big 'ol strnigs for a guitar player!) and got rid of it.......thanx
