Dear All, I recorded my first EP (actually as stereo track into the PC) and shall deliver the CD master to the Glass master producer.
Which gear do you use to perform this operation ??
1)Stand alone CD-R or PC ??
2) Do you think I could fulfill the CD audio standard with a PC or it will be impossible??
3)Which CD burn programme is the best for the standard needed by the glass master producers to have compatibility with their machines ??

I ask you this because I would like to have an AUDIO CD with the biggest compatibility on Hifi equipments; otherwise I would have been using my PC to produce Audio CD-R (it is my first product, so no big series are forecastable yet.)

Pls give me your guidelines
Tks

SCSI burner, in WaveLab ( PC ), or Sonic Solutions DAW ( Mac ).
EMTEC ( ex. BASF ) or TDK CD-R media.

papoola! You have posted this question in at least 4 other forums!

Why is that??????

Put the music on a CD-R or a DAT. Then send it in to the mastering/pressing company.

Papoola, use Apogee CDR for the master. if you can use a stand alone cd recorder, thats better.

Dobro, I'm gonna smack you, you failed your exams ;)
Stand-alones are generally better as they have, again generally, lower jitter.

And Papoo - what do you mean with the "glass mastering producer"?????? A company which prints large volumes of CD's (as in 1000 plus) will normally manufacture a glass master in order to manufacture 1000's of CD's, that's all.
Even a mastering house does not normally produce a glass master, but a red book master if its for a CD.

So, before you do something / pay for something you don't need and get screwed along the way - talk to us about exacly WHAT you need doing.

Sjoko2, sorry if I was not clear enough

Dear Sjoko, i need to produce 300 copies of my first audio CD, made with my music and the precious advise how to use my gear working fine.
These advises come mainly from newsgroups and homerecording.
So , I would ship some free copy to the people that helped me very much.

About my question: I have to realize 300 CD's and the options are basically 2:
1) Make my own CD-R with Plextor
2) Make a CD-R master to be sent to the company that will PRINT the 300 CD's. They will make the glass master (it is in the contract) and will keep it in case you need up to 3000 copies.

Decision between any of the two choices is not yet taken.
Friend told me that if I want to be considered in the music world I shall Print them, NO CD-R. Do you agree???
That's why my best option seems to make a best quality CD-R with some softwares like Wavelab and deliver to the company. They asked me 2-3 CD's-R made at different speeds. They will check it before and then if approved they will make the glass master and so on....
If you have some comments I really appreciate, expecially about CD-R or printed CD's acceptance factor. Tks

If I were you I would not even consider printing any quantity of CD's before your material has been mastered properly.
A couple - by all means do it yourself, but 300? If you are going to pay for that, do it right or you will waste your money.

Cost of the mastering studios

Can you pls state indicative cost for a mastering studio ??
Input will be 6 songs of 8 tracks each.
Total time 29 mins.
Tks

PS.: My idea was to produce 100 copies only to send around as gifts demo to fanzines etc etc.
That's why i wanted to make CD-R myself.
After this i listen to stories that noone like to receive CD-R as a product. That's why i contacted printed cd producers.
Can you comment again about the necessyty in having printed CD instead of CD-R ???

Look at my link for "mastering offer", and if you send it to me immediately, I will do it for that amount of money. If you wait I cannot do it for that amount, as our new place will be up-and-running and busy, in which case the costs for mastering 6 songs are over 4 x the offer.
A printed CD normally will have a lower jiter rate in comparison to a 'home burned' one - depending on the systems the production facility is using. They are not all good.
We can easily do a run of 100 for you without having to make a glass master and the associated costs.
