I use to have some pro 35's that you can buy at radio shack. They hd great responce. I cought them at 50% off so I bought them for $20. The only down side to them was that they did not cuff the whole ear. I recommend them!!!

While Radio Shack may be useful for oddball adapters and batteries, you really don't want to buy something like headphones from them. In a word - total-crap.......

You don't say what kinds of applications you want them for.......

I'd go with the AKG K240M at $99... they're pretty much an industry standard.

Probably the only reason to choose the Senn 280s over the AKG 240s is the much better external-sound isolation (-32 dB) of the
Sennies--great for noisier environments, including monitoring applications for acoustic instruments. The downside is that their tighter, more secure fit could be tiring after long hours of use.

I just ordered my own Senn 280s from new.egg.com for $85, FedEx shipping inc. Nice price.

Good luck.

Yup. Less bleed is a good thing.

K240's sound great -- a little bass shy, and you will get spill during quiet passages. Not recommended for tracking accoustic guitar.

Yo Sky:

For just a few more pezzutos, you can get the Beyer 250's -- great cans -- good sound -- closed. AND< very comfortable on the cranium.

Gotta disagree with the bear on this one. Not a good person to disagree with, bear will get ya!!

Koss makes Radio Shack's phones.

Koss makes some of the finest, most efficiant phones you can buy.

Check out Radio Shack's (Koss) Titaniam, half off at $25.00. This is a very good buy. Great sounding, and the most comfortable phone I have ever had!!

A "sleeper" headphone is the Sony MDR-V6 which are the same as the
7506's, which are standard for many studios-except the V6's are cheaper.
The Pro 35's ARE good sounding, originally learned about them from
Prosoundweb via "The MIXFIX"! :) What sucks though is they have no
replacement for the "ear foam" covers when they wear out.

Hands down, AKG 240's!

Or if you can spend a lil mo' cheddar', peep some Sony MDR's!

Audio Technica ATH-M40fs. Got mine for $80. They sound great, and they're closed back.

I bought a pair of these, same price.
They are comfy, and sound nice!

tdukex, for further verification of the 7506 and MDR-V6 being the same there is further info available at RAP via google search.
David Satz, for example, knows about it. (pro engineer there)
Really not much more to say on it.
That's handy to know though when you need to replace the earpiece as the MDR-V6 are discontinued.

This was analogus on Sony's part like how Electro-Voice marketed the EV RE20 to "pros" and the EV PL20 microphone to music shops (with a different paint color). :)

The Sony MDR-V600 is the follow up to the V6. It's basically the same headphone with some minor cosmetic differences - i.e. it's also basically the same as the "renowned" 7506, but $30 cheaper and more comfortable. Excellent headphone for the price.

Anytime tdukex. :)

I like the Sony's particularly because they don't need much gain,
and their closet approximation in monitor form are the Yamaha NS-10's IMHO. If you add too much treble, they'll rip your head off
(just kidding). For my modest needs, the AKG 240 DF's I use as a counterpoint are fine. The Sennheiser HD580's, however, sound
terrific in terms of hi-fi sound and being complementary to the Sony's.
