I need a new set of headphone for my studio.....just wondering what are some of yalls favorites for under a $100.

I was looking at musiciansfriend

AKG M80 - $39.99
Audio Tech. - $69.99 =special instant rebate
Nady QH660- $49.99 = 2 for 1 deal @ musiciansfriend

or whatever.....

The Audio Technica ATH M40fs, which is the one you are referring to (I think), is a very decent can for tracking. Flat frequency response. Perhaps a little "honky" in the midrange. Nice image. Comfortable. Cheap.

Sennheiser HD280 get good reviews, as do the $100 sony phones (I forget the model).

I've got two pairs of Sony MDR-V150 headphones, they're $20 at Wal~Mart, and I like them a lot.

REALLY !?!? ....... that's sounds tasty to my wallet ! :D

Try the search function, Appollo. Lots written about your exact question. In my case, I bought and compared the Sony 7506, AT 40, and Senn 280; I chose the Senns.

I have been using the v150 for 3 years with no trouble. I have 3 sets of them.
Great for tracking.

Sony 7506. Compare them to the AT 40's and I am pretty sure you will never put on a pair of AT mh40's again. They are $99 a pair.

There cheap enough to not sweat trying them out. I've gotten used to them enough to rough in a mix before I start annoying my family with the monitors. And if you don't like them for recording, they're a dandy upgrade to earbuds.

AKG vs Sennheisers...

I own the AKG K-240's and the Sennheiser HD280 pro's.
They are both in that $89-$99 dollar range.
The Sennheisers are better overall especially since they are "closed-back" which helps defeat feedback when recording with a microphone while wearing headphones.

Discussing this topic again I see! Well once again allow me to cast my vote for the Sennheiser HD280 Pro's. They are excellent. However they are 64 ohms and might be a little harder to drive as compared to the Sony 7506's which are 32 ohms.

By the way Sony has a sexy new style of studio monitor headphones. Check out www.sonystyle.com and look for the Sony MDR XD400 headphones. They're sexy like a mofo!
