What is the best guitar sound you have ever heard on a record???

Mine is The Creation - Making Time...

Jimi Hendrix, "red house", "little wing" or "axis bold as love"

Ritchie Blackmore-Burn
Carlos Santana-Europe
Mark Knopfler-Brothers in Arms
Mark Knopfler-Money for Nothing
Jon Schaffer (Iced Earth)-Angel's Holocaust
Glen Tipton/K.K.Downing (Judas Priest)-Hellion/Electric Eye
Al DiMeola-Egyptian Danza

just my €0.02
cheerz

STEVIE RAY VAUGHN - LENNY
Ritchie Sambora - Ill Be There For You
Jimi Hendrix - The Wind Cries Mary

Wow....there are so many.
I'll try to pick some possible obscurities.
George Harrison on "And Your Bird Can Sing " (Beatles)...double tracked harmonies with great phrasing, and a singing AC30.
The same Mr. Harrison on "The End" (Abbey Road)
Larry Carlton on his live disc, "Last Nite"
Leslie West--"Theme To An Imaginary Western"-----anything from "Mountain Climbing."
Eric Johnson (oh dear......which one?)
You guys really picked some winners....Hendrix had the tone and feel down like no one else.Rhythm tones count ,too! How about Paul Kossoff on the old Free albums?

jimi hendrix "the star spangled baner" albert king "personal manager" goerge harrison "my sweet lord" johnny winter "still alive and well"

it was a 4-way tie

Jimmy Page's lead to Whole Lotte Love. He could never reproduce that live, and doesn't seem to have even tried, always doing some lame, bluesier version of the studio recording.

I'll support the Hendrix one. The sound is great and hasn't dated a bit.

I'm also a Morello fan. As well as in his great weird solo's, the sound is also fabulous on his superb riffs.

Led Zeppelin I, II, Abbey Road, John Lennon:Plastic Ono Band.

It seems that everybody is going to kill me, but I'm gonna ask anyway:

Who is Eric Johnson?

- richie kotzen on the whole poison "native tongue" album.

- a lot of jimi hendrix' sounds

An amazing guitarist. Plays Jazz/Blues/Rock type music. Download the song Cliffs of Dover.

One of the most amazing guitarists you'll ever hear. Played with Satch and Vai on the first G3 tour. A truly unsung hero in the guitar world.

"Cliffs of Dover" brought me to tears the first time I heard it.

Oh - and I thought this was about "sound", not "performance"

How does "Star Spangled Banner" qualify? That was the most awful guitar sound I've ever heard - the performance was incredible, but that guitar sounded like CRAP>
