I want something that is comparatively easy to use - drag and drop to create the rhythm track - could be stand-alone, then import the media file to Reaper.
Not looking to spend a lot of money, either.

Suggestions?

I keep a big folder of single drum hit samples and then drag and drop them into Reaper.

It's free!

Not really what I'm looking for, as it would take me hours (weeks) to create a whole rhythm track.

Yeah, it usually takes me an hour or two per song.

have you tried easy drummer. my band mate really likes it and he seems to get good results.

I just got EZ Drummer - couldn't resit the $29 sale price. Once I got it installed (finicky ZIPped files), it works great. Just need to learn the shortcuts now.

I know this might be a bit off-topic. But if you got a Mac or Linux computer around, I would strongly suggest "Hydrogen" It is a drum machine with several sounds and a really nice mixer as well. Easy to understand and use right away. Powerful as well :) Otherwise then that I've been using Grizzly. This is a midi plug-in and I think it's hard du understand and costs a lot of time! ): Hope something of this helped?:)

Addictive Drums and EZ Drummer both work well for me.

Where did you find it for $29?

Easy Drummer.

If i had a nickle for everytime i wrote that in this forum.

EZ Drummer recently had a really great sale. If I didn't already own and use Addictive Drums I would definitely have jumped on the deal. As for me, AD works flawlessly in Reaper and I love using it.

If you need something really quick and dirty that's MIDI based, one of the users over on the Reaper forums created a little drum-sampler set of tracks. Search for ReaDrums and you should be able to find it. I've tried it and even used it to create rough beats for several songs. We used it to keep time when doing scratch tracks with my band one night. The drummer wasn't available and we didn't have the luxury of rescheduling...
