What is the best computer I could get for under 500$ including the soundcard. Already built or I build it myself is fine. I know I have found some decent prebuilt ones for under 400$. So I know that with a sound card and computer I could get one for under 500$

i'd also like to hear the answer to this - because i've been looking and gotten nowhere fast.

go to ubid.com...and you will get an awesome computer for $500

The best one is one you build yourself, because you know whats in it. Also roll-your-own PCs are almost always more upgradable that ones from a company like Dell or Gateway, which tend to be proprietary.

$500 might be tight. I dont have any current price listings from anyone nearby, so I'm just going to pull these numbers outa my ass...

Case - $50
Keyboard & mouse - $30
Motherboard & CPU - $200
RAM - $40
Floppy drive - $15
Hard drive - $100
CDR Burner - $100
Video card - $50

That's about $585, and you would need to add on some sort of sound card, depending on what you want. Obviously a faster CPU & bigger hard drive will pump up the price.

i ordered my sister's pc from ubid.com my moms too. my sister's was only $509
case,Athlon XP 1800+ 512MB RAM, DVD, cd-rw, 64mb video card,with a 40gig hard drive all for $509.

u-bid...is that like ebay or something? cuz i cant seem to find where you build your own comp haha.

anyone know where a good site (besides dell) where you can completely customize your computer?

You probably already heard of this place, but it has listings of the cheapest places for all the parts you need to put together a computer. You'll have to put the system together yourself.

www.pricewatch.com

Get a Pentium based system with simple bus architecture.

I have a 1 gig athlon sure it raw power but it does some funny things with my hardware (doesnt like my adat/edit card at all!)

Or save your money and get a G4 :)

wait..so what is UBID?! haha.
is that just any average joe selling computers? Or is it big companies selling it..?

thanks

yeah but to me, it looked kind of like an ebay...

so it's pretty safe to bid there, etc....stuff is garunteed and what not? haha

it is like ebay, but companies are selling things not people. it safe to order from them, we've ordered over $3000 worth of stuff form ubid. everything from computers and computer parts, to home theater stuff etc... they give you all the tracking numbers ...etc
i usually get 2 day delivery on things i order from ubid

did you see the prices before the auctions ended? the athlonXP 1800+ computer went for $529... and the other 2 didn't even break $400.. that's why i said, you arn't gonna get a better computer for the money.
