Best Compression/Archival Format for Mac?

Hi folks.

I'm a long time Pc user, back to the MS DOS days.

Now that I'm getting into mixing and mastering, what is the most widely compatible compressed archive format for Mac users?

I can produce ZIP and RAR files on my end. Can Mac folks deal with these through built-in support in the OS?

Or, is there a free utility I should make available to them to deal with these formats?

Zip and unzip are built into the OS. RAR requires downloading UnRarX or similar.
