I've been thinking of picking up a cheap guitar that I could bang around with, or upgrade certain parts if I want. I have a Pearly Gates pu that could be used. But mainly who makes the best cheap guitars that could be found used under a $100.

Epiphone Les Paul Special II

A pawn shop or craigs list is the place to take $100 ...in this economy there is a huge selection of decent stuff arround that price.

Yamaha Pacifica, Peavey Predator or Reactor. Rondo's stuff, Agile and SX are good, as is the Xaviere/Guitarfetish stuff.

Ibanez GAX 30 nice wee guitar for little money, about £120 new.

Ibanez GRX20 is another good one...looks like a Double Fat Strat, but with just one tone control. $150.00 is the price.
