Best card/solution for MORE than 4 inputs?

Well, I was talking to Slack, and I blew it. The sound card I ordered, the WaMi Rack 192L, has 4 Unbalanced inputs (1/4"), and 4 Balanced Line/Mic inputs (XLR), apparently I can only use a combo of 4 at a time. So it's a 4in/8out card.
What I was looking for was a card with more than 4 inputs. For the money, is the Delta 1010 the way to go, or are there better card - solutions out there? Also, is the Delta 1010LT much inferior to its "big brother", or do they use the same DACs?

Thanks, and if they let me send this card back, I'll try to get one with more inputs. If not, I'll just have to live with it, I guess.

The Delta 1010 and 1010Lt are both good cards. The 1010 will have the breakout box which is more convenient. Also look into the RME multiface...excellent interface and it has been proven.
 
I could get the full blown Delta 1010 off Ebay for $450...maybe less if I got lucky. The Delta 1010LT is $379 new from musician's friend, and has 2 XLRs. Is the sexy lookin' rack of the 1010 worth the extra money? The ins and outs seem the same to me - am I missing something?
Also, how do I know if the DACs are the same quality?
If the 1010LT isn't too bad, I might go with that, because that's one less Audio Buddy I'll have to buy.

I got the 1010lt for $250 new- digitalproaudio.com- guitar center matched that price- they warnt too happy about it though, but they match competitor prices - even sweatwater.com had it for 280... all three are authorized m-audio dealers

Holy Cow! $250 for the Delta 1010LT...man, you're right. I just checked out their site. Well, what do you all think -- I should probably send back the WaMi Rack 192L, and get one of these, right? Is it high quality sound, even if it's the LT version?
Does it suck to just have RCA ins, instead of the 1/4" ins that are on the other boards?

The 1010LT and 1010 don't have the same sets of AD/DA converters but (not talking here from having experience with either card so take it for what it's worth) whether you would notice that at all depends mostly on the rest of the signal chain.
 
The Delta is a fine card, but don't forget the Aardvark Q10. 8 analog inputs, all with high-quality class A microphone preamps as well as line inputs (combo connector so you can use either XLR or 1/4" plug), two channels of switchable special guitar input, seperate volume controls for headphone and monitors, zero latency monitoring in the hardware, channel inserts on the first 4 channels, phantom power on the first 4 channels. 96 kHz sampling, Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 included free. $750. or so brand new on Ebay. Sweet combination, IMHO.

No, I don't work for them <grin>.

Well...shoot, I 'm still not quite sure what to do. Man, I hate hasseling with returns. It's going to arrive tomorrow.

Hey IDEA :cool: just popped into my head. If I decide to keep the EGO-Systems WaMi Rack 192L, could I always just add another board if I ever need more than 4 channel recording? Because I don't right now, but maybe in the future I will.

SLACK mentioned the C-Port ... I found it online for $399 -- virtually same price as the WaMi Rack. Would that one be worth getting?

I dont mind the rcas- i picked up a bundled cable- 8 cables in one wrap with rca on one end and 1/4" on the other- what- im not gonna get behind the desk everytime i wanna change somethin- that big as cable goes to the patch bay- no fuss-
the c-port looks nice- no one really talks about that one around here for some reason- not that its bad- just doesnt seam to popular. Seams like the bigens around here are the delta 1010 and the aardvark stuff. Im happy with the quality of the 1010lt (i upgraded from delta 2496) but for rock and roll and punk rock you probably dont need somethin as sensitive as if you were doin, say, piono solos or just singers- just a thought

Yeah...hmmm...I kind of decided on either the Delta 1010 or 1010LT...$200 difference. Well, I guess I'll make up my mind sooner or later. Seems like the Delta 1010 does have better ADC / DAC, but I don't know if I need it...
...BTW, where did you get that cool cable? That sounds like what I'd do if I got the LT!

I use a Cport. I'm *very* pleased with it. Gotta make sure your DAW works with it (as with probably every card that's out there) and it's surely value for money. The pre's are okay, definitely better than those on the ol' Behr mixer, latency is good (5ms at 44k, 1ms at 96k) and the price is right.
Their DSP3000 system is worth looking at too, but the price gets close to the Q10 which is obviously a better card for it's clock alone.

1010lt is something I'd stay away from, their convertors are on the PCI card which is looking for interference problems...

(actually the delta converters and the ST-Audio ones are the same...)

Ahhhh...so the main reason to get a rack - the converters are in there, not in the PC. Thanks for that - maybe I should look at the full 1010, then; About the C-port - do many people use it? Seems like I haven't heard too much about it, but SLACK said maybe I should look into it... you think the quality's the same as a Delta 1010?

I also have the c-port card.Its an excellant value 10X10 full duplex card. The envy 24 converters are in the breakout box which is quieter (same chip as Terratec and Delta). 24/96 capable and ASIO2 compliant. I've had mine a couple of years and heartily endorse it. All the tunes on my music page...

Those are great songs! I especially liked the Brown Eyed Girl rendition. Well, that put the C-port in a good light with me - I can't fault the sound.
I'll see what I could get one for online, (anyone have a place to suggest), and go from there.

Well, after checking them out, it's only a little bit more to get the Delta 1010...so, I'll probably go that route. But that means the quality should at least be the same as your songs, right? (If they use the same chip).

I appreciate all the help; I've just decided I better go with the Delta for the ability to run the +4db line inputs in case I really get into it. :)
