Best cable to use, and where to get it

Howdy,
I need to get some cables/wires to hook-up a 2-trk machine to a mixer. The 2-trk is XLR in and out, and the mixer is XLR out for the stereo buss out, and RCA in for the tape machine return, so I need two XLR to XLR cables and two female XLR to RCA cables. The 2-trk will be a mixdown machine, so I want to make sure that I'm using good quality cables. My local guitar center sells Hosa cables: are these good quality, or are there better options for this application? If there are better ways to go than buying Hosa cables from guitar center, what do you use and where do get it from?

Thanks a lot!
Cliff

i use hosa cables, they're nice, good quality cables.
you can ask at the guitar center if thats the best they've got, i bet they know about cables

At GC they usually have Monster Cables, too. The higher the quality the more expensive they are, and they can get pretty damn expensive. Look at the 1000 range for REALLY good cables.

An alternative is buying online and getting Mogmi cables. Most people think that they're ever bit as good as Monster, but usually a lot cheaper. The don't have the at GC or I'd have them, too.

If you're looking for crazy (ie expensive) quality then check out some of the silver core cables. I don't remember what the name of the company is, but I'm sure you could find it with a little searching.

Plain and simple: make your cord runs short. Unless the cables are really shitty I don't think it will matter much.

What about wire gauge?

Thanks for the feedback.....I'll try to locate some Mogami wire or cable...worse-comes-to-worse the Hosa will get me by, it sounds like. I probably should've asked this, too: for sending the mixer's stereo signal to and from the mix-down 2-trk, is there a required wire gauge I should be looking for, or should what ever gauge it comes in be alright (say, in the case of the packaged Hosa cables)?
Thanks,
Cliff
