Is the e-mu 1820 the best bang for a buck? In the price range of 350.00 to 550.00? Just wanted a well rounded set up that sounds good so can do a little bit of everything! Thanks cudaaa

i think so. you can get a 1820m for like 399 now...i think i saw that online somewhere. the built in dsp is why i use emu.

I bought one a while ago for those very reasons, plus the s/pdif and the ADAT leave plenty of options for expanding later on etc.

I've heard people say the earlier drivers were a bit rubbish but mine seems pretty stable so I guess they must have fixed that.

I'm pretty happy with mine really.

What about the mic in? Can you get clean vocals without a hum (self noise) to remove?

I've never had any hum with the mic-in.

The headphone-amp is a tad noisey which worried me at first because I thought the noise was comming from the microphone pre-amp, but I later realised after listening back to what I had recorded on speakers that it was only comming through the headphones.

Haven't seen it cheaper than $499. Post if you can find it cheaper for me. Thanks.
