i would be wary of have a 2.1 setup if your room isn't treated at all.

it will probably also lead you to mix bass light - remember most of your listeners out there won't have a sub, so while you're sitting there with a big smile on your face while your sub kicks you in the chest, you're listeners are wondering why there's not bass in the mix!

Behringer Truth.

No, that's not a typo.

.

To be perfectly honest I wouldn't argue with this in the least. I use to own the maudios and I swear I couldn't get a mix to translate if my life depended on it. One of my best friends has the Truths(bigger ones I think) and they actually translated very nicely, the low end missing from the maudios was there. I'd just be a little worried about reliability.

That's what I was originally thinking, but I guess it could go either way in an untreated room - too much bass, or too little in the final mix. But I was thinking in that kind of music making it sound good on some KRKs would probably sound fine in a car or something. Unless the bastard listening to it loves to have his subs all the way up and drive around in the 20 degree wheather with his windows down...fucker.

I think that chaper monitors might be ok for rap and DJ beats since cheap monitors tend to make you add too much bass to the mix...

but I bet that wouldn't bother ya too much!

Just keep it in mind when mixing so it doesn't get outta hand and you're good.

also, with rap and dj beats, you are going to be using mostly samples, loops and midi right?

therefore, mixing isn't as bad as when you are doing raw audio tracks (in my experience)

good luck.

but for that price you might not be able to make it...but if your going around 8 inch then i suggest:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/M1ActiveMkII/
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Resolv80A/

And if you want the sub and monitors:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LX4/ <----this might be your best bet for the lows....i own m-audio monitors...though much better then these they are preety nice for the price
or
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Resolv2.1/

The subs/monitors would prolly fit your style better because you need to understand (you may or may not) that smaller (no matter how nice) cant possibly hit the lows you might want...hope that helps....

P.S never herd the samson set...but it looks like a sweet gig

look around at musicians friend and music 123 and zzsounds...sometimes they give you stuff for buying stuff
hope that helps.....because i wasted a lot of time for music i don't really even like that much [/QUOTE]

they dont carry the m audio lx 4 anymore? everyone says discontinue.
i need something nice and resonable price with monitors and 8'' subwoofer.
