I was wondering what your opinions are regarding amps for acoustics. I have two Martin D-18's (6 and 12 str). I would like to by a 'reasonably priced' amp that allows for one or two Guitar inputs, and at least one vocal? Does this even exist? (I know NOTHING about amps). Probably would want something that has 'some' degree of 'tuneability' ie reverb, eq'ing each input etc.

Does this exist, what are some good choices, and how much would I have to spend?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

In my opinion, acoustic amps sound bad. I would get a small PA instead.

SWR makes some great sounding acoustic amps - the California Blonde and her little sister the Strawberry Blonde. These amps sound fantastic. I don't think they have mic inputs, though.

Carvin makes a little acoustic amp (100D?) that has 3 channels - one for acoustic guitar, one for bass, and one for a vocal mic. It has some built in effects as well. I have no idea how it sounds, though. I've never heard or played one.

I like the Fender Acoustisonic Jr. DSP
If you want a tone that cuts through stage volume, so you can play with a full band etc. it's great.

It doesn't have as much bottom fullness as say the older Crate amps had, but I really like to let the bass guitar handle the low end anyway.

I also like the XLR direct out the newer model has and the fact that it comes after all the tone and other controls.

The feature I really like is the high frequency damping feature called string dynamics. It lets all the tone come through when you are strumming really hard, but keeps out the harshness. I find when I go direct only that the guitar in the monitor gets to be too much real quick in the high end. Of course I have kind of sensitive ears (I'm told).

Well there's my 2 cents

There are many others that I haven't tried yet.

Yo Dirtythermos- The California Blonde does indeed have a mic input, and it is a fair small PA. I've also had pretty good luck with a Fender Passport PD250. I use a Taylor 710CE with a Fishman Prefix Plus Stereo blender, and the electric also goes into the PA with a Behringer VAMP II for a front end. The SWR acoustic amps are excellent, but unfortunately, not cheap. You get what you pay for. For the record, the Crate sucks.-Richie

the fender and swr amps are too bright for me. I have the Marshall AS50 and as far as i'm concerned the only way to go better is to get a Trace Elliot but that'll cost you $$$.

the Marshall has 2 channels. so you can have either 2 guitars or 1 guitar and a vocal. i use mine with my Martin and Taylor and its definitely darker than the fenders and swr's. it also has a better low end.

i say just go and play a bunch of them and pick one.
