Best 300 dollar snare?

Hello,

I am just curious about thoughts and opinions. It doesnt matter what wood/metal. I am just curious as to which one peeps like the best for that particular "bang for the buck" :)

(This is Errr314's wife and he can't have another 300 dollar snare). Love you Errr. :)

It depends. What tone are you looking for? Bright? Warm? Crisp? Fat?
 
i'm not a fan at all of signature models, although the chad smith sig snare is one beuuuuuuuuutiful sounding piece of wood. not sure of the price but it could well be under $300. it gives you that really sorta in your face funky hard crack sound.

musicians friend has a ludwig snare that looks like and is the same size as a ludwig supraphonic 402 for just $91.99 :eek: I wonder if it sounds the same, it is metal,not chrome and brass.
 
Black Panther

It's pretty amazing how many decent sounding snares are on the market these days for very little money. My housemate's kit came with a Yamaha Steel 14", and it sounds great - probably pick one up for about $50.

In the studio, a Mapex Black Panther 14" chrome snare seems to be the favorite for most situations. It was the least expensive snare of the lot, too. It's very versatile, plays well and sounds great.

Drummers should try out ALL the snares in the music store w/o looking at the brand or the price. You'll be amazed at what you'll find you like.

actually, i like the chad smith snare. i'm trying to convince my drummer to get one.
i think it's a little over $200.
 
Good rule of thumb: You get what you pay for. The more expensive snare drums sound REALLY nice.
 
My best friend (a bassist) is trying to convince me to get the Mike Portnoy Melody Masters Tama Snare... but i beat him senselessly untilmy arm was tired and told him that I am saving up for a 22" china, a few bells and cup chimes, and a new drum set, and im not wasting any fucking money on that... But its really is a great snare, the steel one is $280, the maple one is $500.
