Hello all

I am posting today in hopes that someone will be able to help me figure out what I am doing wrong when trying to connect my mixer to my pc.
A few months ago I picked up a Behringer xenyx1832 for a band room I shared with a friend at his place. He decided to move out of state, so I needed to take all my equipment to my apartment.

So I have set the non loud things up, and have been trying to connect the mixer to my pc but keep running into problems that I can't figure out. My pc is a 64bit windows 7 pro and I went to Behringers website and downloaded: USB Audio Driver 64-bit USB ASIO driver

Then when I have it connected to my pc, the mixer will receive a signal and play sounds that the computer is making, but it will not send a signal to the pc. I go into the recording devices and select Behringer ... as the default, but when I try to listen to it no levels are given. And when I open up Audacity, Mixcraft, and another DAW I can't remember at the moment, it again has nothing coming from the mixer.

The little red button for usb has been pressed, but nothing goes to the pc.

Any ideas?

Thank you

You have to select the Behringer as your audio device in the DAW you are using. When you say "I go into the recording devices and select Behringer" you are going into your Windows device selector and telling it the behringer is going to do the recording, like it was an external recording machine.

Yep, have done that. In mixcraft its in the preferences, but all I get from that is silence.

I am pretty sure if I were able to get levels while looking at the sound: Recording devices tab everything else would work just fine.

Thats where I think the problem lies.. It appears as if there is absolutely nothing coming from the mixer

The manual give scant information of the usb setup but try this...

Remove the drivers and all other references to Behringer on the PC. If you can, Restore the PC to a point before it "knew" about Behringer.

Reboot the PC.

Now re-install the drivers but DO NOT HAVE THE MIXER CONNECTED. Once the drivers are installed and all has settled down, plug in the mixer. You should then get a notification that the device has been found and then that it has installed correctly.

If the above gives no result, dig into the Win 7 Audio Devices menus to find the usb device. It might be listed as a microphone!

Dave.

We''l just start with Audacity for now. Make sure you have your device selected for speakers and line. Don't worry if you can't hear anything right now, just push record and see if something doesn't get recorded. You can worry about monitoring later.

I think the PC is recognizing it,I think you can't hear anything, but doesn't mean you can't record (maybe).

You are right, the manual is surely not the greatest on this issue. Their support just suggested that I installed the wrong driver.
But I will try uninstalling the driver tonight and see if that helps to redo it that way.

I am fairly sure that if the computer can't see anything coming through in the Recording devices tab, none of the DAWs will either.

Thanks for your responses this far!

Well during the installation of it, I was unable to not connect it. In the installation it requires you to plug it in half way through.

But it didn't work, I got the same results. The red usb button does nothing, but the usb source button does control whether or not the computer outputs through the mixer.

I tried many different combinations of buttons pressed but nothing seems to work.

Wow, the manual IS really useless. It's in black-and-white, so I don't know what the 'red button' is you refer to, there's nothing in the manual that shows a 'USB out' button - what is it labeled? The red button I see in pictures is the 'USB to Main' button. I suspect that if you press this, it shuts off the normal USB output to prevent a feedback loop, because the USB woudl be the digital equivalent of the main output.
Are you sure you have a signal routed to the main output? Do you have monitors/speakers hooked up to the main output - make sure something is coming out of main first.

Yes that is what it says: 2-TR/USB to Main, there is also another one that is in the grouping: Source that is 2-TR/USB. When the 2-TR/USB is up there is no sound from the PC when it is in the the sounds from the pc go through the mixer.

Yes I do have monitors coming out of main, and there is sound from main. The channels that would be in use all have the MAIN button pressed.

I thought this would much more straight forward haha

When the 2-TR/USB is up there is no sound from the PC when it is in the the sounds from the pc go through the mixer.

Exactly what I said - leave it UP (off) when you want the USB signal on whatever you have plugged into the mixer go to the PC. You then should be able to select teh Behr as your audio input device in your DAW - is it available as a choice? Arm 2 new tracks in your DAW for recording, select the left/1 and right/2 channels, and you should be good to go.
If the mixer is not available as the audio input chioce, you dont' have the drivers installed correctly. If you are able to select the mixer as your inputs on the tracks and get no signal, then the mixer is at fault.

Yes, in all the DAWs I use, I can see: Behringer Audio ... and there is never a signal coming through.

So this is something I should bring up with Behringer?

Thanks for all the help you have provided! Really do appreciate it!

I think the problem is the USB routing. Lot of buttons on that.

I didn't read all the way through this, but it might have information you require: XENYX series mixers

I have tried above before, but I will again try it to see if maybe I was mistaken in one of the steps.

But I know for sure I have the desired channels being "bussed" to the main mix

this'll sound silly but I'm not seeing where you have any audio going into the mixer other than from the puter.
I'm sure you do but I'm asking anyway since you don't mention anything being plugged into any of the mixers' inputs.

Yes, I have a couple mics plugged in, and as mentioned I do get sound from the main mix through monitors from said mics.

Channel 1 I have a sm58 syle mic
Channel 3 I have a MXL condenser mic
Channel 6 I have a guitar

All give me sound when using monitors through the main mix

Going over those steps for the third time actually worked. So thank you to all that offered your help and advice!

That's good. Now read the sticky thread about 'mixers and home recording'! ;)

I had the same problem. Here was my fix.

Go into your system settings for pc, I'm thinking it's control panel for PC, then select sound and make sure Behringer is selected in the "sound input". Then open your recording software and do the same things for the program settings. There was a little hiccup with the behringer, the two red buttons [2 track USB and 2 track USB Main), one had to be selected and one off (I'm thinking the 2 tr USB to Main had to be selected and the other one off). You'll have to try them. That is where my hangup was. I think I found the solution on the online behringer support.

Hi, I'm pretty sure Mixcraft does not take 64 bit. Did you try the 32 bit driver from Behringer?
Cheers.
