Behringer V-Amp or Digitech Genesis 3 GeNetX

I was trying to decide whether to buy the Digitech Genesis 3 GeNetX (the desktop thing, not pedal, blue) or the Behringer V-Amp. The price is better on the behringer, but the digitech looks better. I have only heard the digitech and was impressed with it. Are there any people that could tell me which one is better? Also, which has more effects (not amp simulators). Thanks a lot.

I have both the Pod and V-amp. The Pod is clearly superior! The V-amp has a harshness/buzz to it's distortions that get on yer nerves after a little while, I'm waiting for an upgrade Eprom in the mail for the V-amp that will not only add amp sims but I'm hoping will smooth out the distortions.

I'll get crazy and actually answer the question.

For the money(right now, a smart shopper can get a V-amp 1.0 for 99 bucks

) it's the V-Amp. I havent tried the GeNetX, but the price difference is enough for me considering that the V-amp sounds very authentic. And I had a POD and it's not worth the extra cash to me, over the V-amp.

Here's a really nutty suggestion........

But it beats the sound of all of the suggestions so far.........!

A good mic, and a good amp!

Naw....... silly me... what WAS I thinking???????

Why would ANYONE ever use the the real thing when we have all this "modelling" gear?!?!?!

Because you could be like me and not have the space, the acoustics, or the understanding neighbor to get a good mic'd sound.

I say POD. I have my POD (still original 1.0, not even updated) sitting right here next to me.

J-Station!!!!!!!!

I'm really happy with my J-Station. Be sure to consider that option.

That's no excuse..... you can get an excellent mic'd sound by throwing a tiny amp into a closet with an SM57 on it...........

If you say so. I've tried that, and it doesn't sound as good doing it that way as the POD does.

But to each their own.

the v-amp all the way. The v-amp is noisy and buzzy... which amazingly enough is what most amps sound like when turned up. Wow, that's a crazy idea. But it was able to give me the tone in my head, which the pod was unable to accomplish. The v-amp has a good user group and Behringer has been very supportive to all my questions.

Now, as far as micing a small amp and whatever...I bought my v-amp for 99 bucks. If you can sell me a mic and a small amp that will somehow get plugged into my soundcard and will give me the sonic and tonal variations that my v-amp offers, all without me having to plan my recording times around my wife and neighbors sleep patters for 99 bucks, I'll be the first in line to buy it. Until then, the v-amp is untouchable to me and my ears.

If we could get such great results with just small amps, mics and closests, wouldn't that put 'real' studios out of business? Hmmmm, there's an idea.

It's not a question of saying so......... it's KNOWING so.......

What do you think an enclosed cab (along the lines of a Randall Isolation cabinet) is??? Basically a closet for the cab........ that'll do much better than ANY modeller, ANY day........

I'm not going argue something that is subjective. What is better to you isn't necessarily better to me.

Besides, he wasn't asking about isolation cabs, he was asking about modeling units.

There can be no question that real tone is always better than "modelled" tone................... which is all I was trying to point out.........

:p :)

I have a J-station, a POD 2.0 and a V-amp. They all have some good sounds and they all have some that sound better than the others. I've been pleasantly surprised by the V-amp. It really does sound good but so do the other ones. The one thing about the V-amp is that it's built very lightweight. Just pluging cords into it flexes the chassis so if you're gonna be traveling with it.........I'm not sure it'll hold up. But it sounds fine.

However, the Bear is right about nothing sounding like an amp. I've been using the modelers for months on live gigs trying to get them to sound good enough to be able to use them so I can have a bunch of different sounds without carrying a zillion pedals but they just don't cut it live. They just don't have the "snap" of a real amp and although I've managed to get them to sound acceptable, they aren't as good as my amps and since I want the best sound I can get....they don't quite cut it for me.

In your opinion. I find that the harshness of tubes isn't as good as the artificial smoother tone of modeling.

Like I said, it's subjective.

Just because many people agree with you doesn't make it fact.

If you're going to spout opinion as fact, at least let me know in the first sentence of your post, so I don't waste my time reading the rest.
