Hey, not sure Im posting this in the right place but does anyone use the behringer UMA25S midi controller? I've just got one and a little slow off the mark when it comes to getting my head around new kit.

The instruction manual says that it has 16 memory locations which you can load presets into. So my question is, what exactly is a preset on a UMA25S. From my initial reading it looks like it is a set of midi messages that are preconfigured. We're trying to take a sound from a keyboard and load it into the UMA so we can use the UMA keypad during live performances.

Anyone know if this can be done?

Thanks..

in a word. No.

A midi controller cannot make a sound on it's own. You cannot load anything into it. What you can do is control something else with it like a synth module or softsynth on a computer. The presets are for the assignments of the midi continuous controller numbers to the knobs and other parameter assignments

Thanks for your response. Thats in line with everything I've been reading.

We use a NORD keyboard during our live show and we're hoping to use the UMA keypad to play a sound patch on it while using the Nord keyboard with a separate soundpatch for the underlying keys track.

Will have to read up on both midi configs to see if that is possible.

Which nord? If it is multitimberal then it will work, you just need the two multis set up to receive on different midi channels

Its an Electro 2, which means we'll have problems. v3 allows for spilt sound output but 2 does not. We're either going to have to upgrade the nord or get some sort of external sound box.

Now to start looking into a device that will play loaded midi sounds...

What's your budget? You can get a rack version of the Motif or Triton for under $500 and either of those will cover just about everything..
