Hi all, dusted off my old vinyl yesterday and attempting to import it to my pc. Suprised myself in how easy it was to do just using my Technics turntable and Technic amp RCA - 3.5 conector to mic in on sound card. Had some problems with the sound at first sounding bad but turning the mic input down and it is better but still far from good. Researched some more and discoverd th Behringer UCA222 and UFO202 but can't make my mind up which would be better. This is my dilema:

My sound card Creative Fatality has got a digital s/pdif in and out so should I get the UCA222 which I would have to use with my amp (I think) and plug up to the s/pdif.

or

Buy the UFO202 and just use it with my turntable and the USB connector as the input.

Which would you experts think is the better way. What a shame the UFO202 hasn't got s/pdif out on it :-(

Many thanks to anyone who take's the time to reads this.

Regards,

Bush...

If all you are doing is importing music from vinyl then really, all you need is a "Line in".
A small preamp is always a bonus and either of those Behringer USB devices is more than enough.
Go with this choice
Buy the UFO202 and just use it with my turntable and the USB connector as the input.
if you want but I'll bet you can run that turntable straight into your soundcard and get excellent results.
By the way, Acoustica, "Spin It Again" is excellent software for decrackling, etc..

thanks for the reply

Hi Jim Lad,

Thanks for the reply, I have had my turntable through a amp and into the sound card via mic in and it doesn't sound very good to be honset (bass and louder noises are distorted) I have turned the mic input right down as well. I think I will be taking your advise and going for the UFO202 but would like to know if the use of the digital out on the UCA222 and the digital in on my card would make for but recording ? the problem then being I will still have to have my amp in the loop I think as the 222 isn't a pre amp (i think I'am right).

Cheers,

bush..:D

I'm talking about running 2 RCA jacks from the turntable to your soundcard.

Nothing in between.

And it's "Line in" not "Mic in" if you choose to go that route.

I know what you mean Jim.. I have done that and my sound card only has a mic in socket or the digital input. Bought the UFO202 today recording sweet as. Might invest in the spin it again software to compare it agaist auddacity.

Cheers for help.

All the best,
