anyone have any thoughts/comments/alternatives in regards to the behringer tube ultragain mic200 preamp? i'm gonna buy a studio projects b1 (mostly for vocals) and this in combination for my home studio recordings unless someone strongly suggests otherwise on either purchase... thanks!
I was just going to buy one myself, but read some reviews complaining that the EQ had some serious noise problems. (A lot of my gear is Behringer and I have had no problems with them, so I'm not an anti-Berry person, by the way...)
Not being able to find one in the local shops, I changed my mind and upgraded a little bit to an ART TPS2, which has the added advantage of front-panel inputs and every review I read of it was positive. $180 at Musicians Friend or any of the other online retailers.
Yea, if you have to go with one of the starved-plate tube dealies, I'd just assume go with one of the ART Tube MP's. At least with those, you'll have a useful D.I. for instruments, keys, bass, etc. if you outgrow it.
well this mic200 acts as a DI as well and i'm looking for something that can fit on a pedalboard for when i play live with it as well... it has 16 adjustable tones so i can use it as a pre to record acoustic guitars, keys, vocals, etc and then use it as a DI onstage as well... where did you see reviews on it? i haven't found ANY and i'm really curious about this EQ issue... should i still stick with the SP-B1 for my (mostly vocals) studio mic? thanks! i just found an Maudio audio buddy on ebay for $60 brand new... will that work well with my acoustic guitar too when plugged into it for recording?
The Studio Projects B1 is a great mic. The SP VTB1 preamp is nice too -- very quiet, with a very quiet tube circuit that can be dialed out entirely... It's also not very big, and it's very solidly built. However, as a DI box, not everyone thinks this is its forte... I've had a few musicians who liked it when used this way though...
