Behringer Truths vs. M-Audio BX8's vs. Wharfedale 8.2

I have heard both these monitors are great... i cant seem to decide on which ones to get... can anyone help me out here?

Do a BBS search on the Truths ... there have been some not nice things said about them in recent history (I myself have contributed).

The BX8's seem to fare a little better around here, though any of the less-expensive monitors seem to have their fair share of problems and no shortage of people (mostly justifiably) pointing them out. But hey, sometimes that's all we can afford. :)

If you're not stuck choosing one of the two monitors you've listed, take a look at the Wharfedale 8.2's. They've been pretty en vogue around here recently and they're about the same price point as the Truths.

i was originally gonna get the bx8's, but i read a review not long ago comparing about 7 different monitors in the <$500 price range, and the truths were rated the best quality and value for money... im confused

I had a pair, and had to send them back because they didn't work properly and Behringer wanted ME to pay to have them fixed. You can do a search for my comments on them if you want the full explanation.

As far as sound quality, they were alright. Some definite hype-age in the upper frequencies, and some low end boosting as well, kind of a 'scooped' feel. Since sending them back I've picked up a pair of Alesis M1 mkII actives. They're about the same price, and they sound okay. Not really any better or worse than the Truths but -- get this -- they WORK.

I use the truths and like them very much. Granted, I really havn't used any other monitor for long periods of time, but i think they sound very good.

On the other hand, the wharfedales are held in VERY high regard around here, and, it seems, you cannot go wrong with them.

I scored some Bx8's for the price of some bx5's basically, off of ebay. Actually hte price was 202.50 plus shipping. obviosuly for that price, best thing ever. hahaha.

anyway, I upgraded from the bx5's, so it's a huge jump for me, and I can def. tell. mostly with the bass.

so i'll vouch for the bx8s, for sure. sorry don't have much else to say, but I've never really USED anything else! ha. only listened for short times.

The problem most people have with the Truths (and other Behri gear) is not so much that they sound bad, they are comparable to other units in the price range, if not slightly better. The problem with Behri is that they flat out suck at backing their products with customer service. When you couple that with gear that seems to break at an abnormally high rate, you have a BAADD combination. I for one will never buy another piece of Behri gear because of this.
BTW, my truths are still alive and kicking, I seem to have really bad luck with their mixers, I've got three boards, one won't turn on, the other wont give me reliable phantom power, and the last one has a completely dead channel.

i like the sound of the wharfeys but i heard somewhere that they dont have a good low frequency response and the bx8s do... this is important because ill be mixing hip hop tracks...

I have the Truths, and they are quite good. They're the only piece of Behri gear I've ever owned, so I can't comment on their customer support, but since these things work, they seem fine to me. However, it is possible that you could find monitors in that price range with better low end response. My "control room" needs low end work, so it's hard to say which is the problem, but I'm often left guessing when it comes to low end, and have to do a lot of reference mixes.
