I just bought a T1953 for $100.00 and I want to upgrade the tubes. What is a good tube upgrade for this unit. It will be used mostly for vocals. I know its a Behringer. But it was only $100.00 for a very usable pre.

This has been done. I did a search and found about 4 different tubes that people where using. Now which tub is going be warm and smooth?

I however did upgrade the tubes for the preamp ( I no longer use this pre), I have put in several
GT-ecc83s are great for vocals
Electro-Harmonix- gives a high, but not shrilled sound
Phillps-- is a nice round fat mid upper
Telefunken-- very smooth

Don't forget to warm up your tubes for at least 15mins (I always do an hour or more) and you won't get the fully potential until you burn them in (it usually takes about 20-30 hours, but eventually it will get burned in each time you use it)

Just bought a T1953 & upgraded it.

Hi all,

So I just bought a Behringer T1953 and walked out of GC with two GT 12AX7R tubes to upgrade. I pulled the factory tubes and swapped the GTs in there. What are some opinions on those particular tubes?

This is my first real experience with a preamp (I did buy a Bellari MP105 and it does add a little, tiny bit. At least I was able to tell a slight improvement). I just tested the T1953 with my guitar and it sounded pretty clean. I then did a test with just my guitar and no T1953. There was a difference I noticed with the T1953. I'm going to like this preamp. I know it's not the best one you can buy, but I think it does pretty good for the price..especially for those of us in the REAL world. I need to try it more and more so the tubes get more comfortable.

By the way, I read a review where some guy checked the current supplied at the tubes and he concluded it was just enough to get the little bit of warmth this preamp puts out. So if that's true, naturally I was wondering if it would be possible to amplify the current at the tubes to make 'em really stand up and be noticed (or glow for real. Ha ha ha). Or something close to an electrical mod to make this unit a better performer.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not an electrical engineer so I doubt I would try any mods myself. I do have a soldering iron though...

And please, no replies from Gear Snobs. I think we all know the typical response: save up for a real preamp. Okay, we've all heard that before.

I did a mod to my T 1951 P-EQ.
I cut a green light gel and put between the tube and the light bulb that lights up the tubes. Now my tubes glow green and I also put a sticker over the Behringer logo. :D

So I just bought a t1953 off of ebay hooked it up per Scrub's instruction(thank you again) but sadly found out that the vu meter on the far right(2) tube side was out. I emailed the guy i bought it from and he said he'd take it back and refund (whew!) but now I'm fearful of Beh. I see a great deal of neg. chat about them. I am old to music ,new to rec. so I'm not looking at top dollar eq (yet). is there a 2 chan tube pre-amp that's comparable to the Beh in price.
