im 18, i just started construction/aquiring gear for my own studio...
behringer seems like a good deal for a lot of rack gear... are they any good?

Depends.... are you going for high quality stuff? If so, behringer is not your best bet.

Though I've had no experience with behringer stuff, there is a lot of better quality inexpensive stuff that members here will recommend over behringer.

I don't have any recommendations, but search around and you'll find a lot.

What gear are you looking for? If you have a list please post it and we can make specific suggestions for each item.

I have only bought one Behringer item--the B1 mic. Great first condensor mic in my opinion.

Do a search and you will find this subject talked to death.

Behringer is great at marketing, brilliant at coming up with ideas and pirating those of others (Swizzarmy and Mackie come to mind), very good at cutting corners - sometimes with good compromises - but it's not even on the list when it comes to acquiring true professional gear. Most of us use some of it anyway. Like anything else, a price leader will deliver what you pay for. Behringer's claims and the products performance don't often match. But the gear is a way in and it is a hell of a step up from Radio Shack stuff.

Keep your expectations pretty low, buy used (dirt cheap - no resale value) if you can, and consider it a first step of many. That'll work. There's a huge difference between something and nothing.

And forget anything the company says about its tube gear. It uses tubes as an effect - but packages it as something more. In fact, its "tubey glow" from the tube preamps - is caused by LEDs installed in back of the tubes you see through that "vintage-like" window. Not nice at all.

from what i understand, behringer products have a high tendancy to break easily...
