before those of you, who hate Behringer, start calling me silly and throwing your Mackie-is-the-bomb-crap at me. I wanna state that a salesman at Sweetwater told me that I should not get any mic pre that are under $500 because they aren't gonna sound much better than the pres I got in my Behringer mixer. Now, I don't own the Behringer company, and neither does my dad. So, let's be nutural here, please.

Is it true? I am concerned because my C1 is arriving in a few days, and I don't wanna be disappointed at C1 due to the pres I got. Of course I will be alot happier if I had better pres, but, should I save up for something like Grace 101 or Presonus MP20 instead of getting somethng cheap like M-Audio stuff or low end ART? Would my Behringer pres be "ok" for now until I get more money?
Some thoughts here, please or experiences would be even better.
Thank you

Plug the C1 into the Behringer if it sounds O/K to you then it is doing the Job if not then ?
Use your ears not your wallet

What the salesman was saying is that the Behringer pres are pretty good and you'd have to go a little higher in price than $500 to significantly improve on the sound. He's pretty correct. The pres in the Mackie and the Behringer aren't too bad. Most of the cheap stand alone pres are either similar, or very colorful in what they do. Some may like the added color, and others may find the color too much.

But you can use the C1 with your Behringer mixer's pre and get pretty decent results. That's what he was saying and I think that's good advice.

thank you guys, that makes me feel better with my pres now.

I use a variety of decent Mics with mine and always get decent results ( if the source is O/K).

umm..were you trying to imply something there when you said "id the source is o/k", wilkee?

Only that like computers Shit in = Shit out so if I screw up levels or get the mics in the wrong place ( or wrong type ) then I get a crappy sound and no amount of money spent on Pre's is going to help.

When posting replies on US based forums we Brits have to be very careful because some of our expressions can be misread. I think this was one of them?

joemeek rocks.

FWIW, a reveiw about the grace 101 said that nothing compares in that price range.

wilkee
I dunno if that was a brit thing or not. I simplely didn't undersatnd what yo meant cuz I am a Chinese lol
