I currently have a Behringer FX1832 but am looking at trading up to a used Yamaha MX20/6 and paying a couple hundred bucks. I've tried the Yamaha and like it but is $600 fair market value for this board?

The street price is $750 new. Depends on how used it is, I guess.-Richie

Thanx - I'm getting the idea that I can go new for not much more - I'm looking at the Yamaha MG206C-USB and the Soundcraft EFX12 both of which are in the same price range. The Behringer I bought new and took back when the effects stopped working and got the Yamaha on loaner till Behringer sent a new one - its about 9 months old so still under the warrantee - yes a new one because apparantly it can't be fixed and they only replace the whole board.

So anyhow I got the mx20/6 as a loaner till it came. I get the "new" Behringer home and the sliders on the first two channels seem really loose and slide with zero resistance so I took that back and they're going to get me another new one.

The warrantee is good for one year from when I bought the first board so having gotten two defective boards I want to get something else before the warrantee is over and I'm stuck with an unfixable board of dubious reliability.

They don't make the mx20/6 anymore so thats why I'm also looking at the mg206c-USB.

I like the USB part as its my intention to use the jam room to record and as I understand it the USB lets me send a stereo signal into the computer directly from the board or as two mono signals by panning one strip all the way left and one all the way right.

Lots to learn.

I feel your pain. Behringer makes some OK cheap stuff, and even a unit or two that I think are best buys in their price range. However, a high end Behringer mixer is one of the last things on Earth I would buy. Yamahas aren't the greatest boards out there, but they sound better than Behringer, and are notoriously reliable. I'm also a fan of Allen&Heath. Best of luck-Richie

It looks like I'm going with the mg206c-USB - the rival music store guy is getting me a really good deal on this board.

Besides good sound, reliability is certainly what I'm after, after getting 1st a wonky makie (broken pod out of the box) then the 2 beh's.

The used loaner Yamaha was for sure a step up in quality of sound.

I like the looks of the allen and heaths but they seem pricey tho I guess you get what you pay for.

I'm hoping the usb will work well with my lappy.

Anyhow thanks

I'd take the Yamaha any day. I've also had quality control problems with various Behringer gear over the years. And even the stuff that has worked has been very flimsy construction. I do own a Behringer Ultracurve 2496 though, which I use as an RTA, and it's excellent for that.

I would grab that Soundcraft before any of the other mentioned boards. I really hate the EQ's on those yamaha mixers. In my opinion, they sound terrible and have really silly shelving points (like 125hz on the low shelf). Also, some of those mg series mixers don't have sweepable mids.

I use a Yamaha MG32/4 - I consider it a very dependable board. I do agree the eq is a weak point (don't think the eq it horrible sounding - but the shelving points are not ideal).

The Yamaha only have two effects sends (but 6 returns) - so you have to be creative when using hardware processing.
