I just got a couple of these
behringer ultravoice mics and they are bloody amazing for there price.
i did some tests compared to the sm 58.
on a snare drum , you would have to go the 58 the behringer is to smooth going up to the high mids so it makes it sound wolly which will not work with the genral snare sound people want, snappy, so to mic a snare i would say dont use the behringer. but on toms it actually ripped the 58 to bits, because of its smooth ramp up to the high mids and its wooly sound it has it is perfect for toms cuts some of the ring out of your toms , where a 58 makes the ring louder, and just has this overall smooth sound to it that is what your looking for in a tom sound.
foir vocals , the first big thing i noticed was the out put this mic had , its gain is alot better than the 58, the 58 sounded like whispers compared to the behringer, and pushed out more low frequanceys , when i got the mics sounding around the same level you then noticed how the 58 was a bit harsher not as smooth but had more high mids than the behringer, but the gain levels on the pre amp were very different, with the behringer less than halfway and the 58 over halfway for them to sound at an equal volume. the behringer didnt sound to bad on the voice smooth sounding but missing those high mids a bit, but eq can sort of save you there.
overall i say these mics are worth more than what there priced and recomend anyone to get atleast one its cheap as hell and could come in very handy.
