The Mic200 has a 20db pad ?
Tony
Wasssup there silkee-wilkee! (Hey man, I incorrectly listed
the MIC100 in my post; I was referring to the 200!)
The MIC(k-e-y m-o-u-s-e)200 states in thier specs that it comes equipped with a switchable 20db pad (the same claim they made on the pre's of their MX line of mixers; which was proven to be false during a ratings test by measuring a max of only 12-14 by Weston Ray a.k.a. "Recording Engineer").
A good friend of mine did a comparison between the 200 and 2 of my lower-end pre's, the ART MP &
the ART TPSII (which Beh obviously borrowed from both to create it's own version). Running an AT4050 thru the 200 in omini & fig-8 patterns less the 10db pad mic'ing his acoustic, he measured a db rating of slightly less than 15. "Discoloration" was apparent when boosting gain and it's var pre-amp modes yielded no "warmth". Matter o' fact, when 20db switch is depressed and valve, acoustic or voice mode is used even the average joe can hear an audible drop in volume along with a lack of clarity.
My ART MP & TPSII provided a cleaner, clearer sound and peaked at 18 compared to the 200 (and that ain't sayin much!)!
It w/b wiser to forgoe this unit and eithe invest in a higher-end pre or if you're on s lo-cal budget, get an ART MP.
