I have a Behringer b1 mic running through a Behringer MIC100 preamp then into a little Eurorack desk and finally into Cubase and I am getting interment "popping" noises coming through. This happens even when I am not singing into the mic, its a noise very similar to a "p pop" or like a lumpy earth noise.

Its makes the mic useless because this sound effectively cancels out the vocal for the moment that it happens.

My first thought is that the mic has a fault, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

Any suggestions would be great.

I would first recommend you get a much better mic and preamp for around two hundred dollars. Barring that, I used to get similar popping noises when my mic cable would cross my power cables. It makes me think there's some electrical issue in your chain.

First, are you sure it's the mic? I assume it only happens when the mic's hooked up. Have you tried a different mic or cable through the same signal chain? Was it all working well at one point, and now has just started?

If everything points to the mic, it's probably a component in the mic's internal preamp.

Or, sometimes the capsule gets damp. If you're in a very humid location, try drying the mic suspended a foot or so over a 60 to 100 watt light bulb for a few hours.

Oh really ? That's an interesting point - many thanks for the suggestion.

Yes I know this is entry level gear, but it still should "work" properly.

It seems to get worse the longer the mic is on. And, I am in Sydney Australia where the humidy often sits nicely at around 90 - 100% !

I have not tried another mic, although I have tried other leads with the same result. Also, because my desnk doesnt have phantom, I cant test the mic without the preamp.
