Behringer Edison problem

I just bought a Behringer Edison EX1, and there is a problem with the bypass button (in/out). It won't stay in if you don't either press it very very fast or very very slowly. Is this a common problem on the unit or should I get it replaced?

it's a common problem in the sense that quality control is a common problem with behringer units of any type.

you could always trade it for another one, but you have to consider that you might get one with a worse problem...
 
Hmm, I don't know. I own a lot of (mostly older) Behringer gear and never had a problem. In fact, the older Behringers are pretty well crafted units. The switches on the newer Behringer "Pro" units look less convincing to me, though.

There are two different versions of the Edison, the German one and the Chinese one. The older German Edison has rectangular LEDs directly next to each other, the later Chinese Edison has spaced round LEDs. The German one is either TRS or XLR ins and outs, the Chinese one has both.

I have an ancient German Edison and never had any trouble with it. So I don't think the swich is a common problem, and you should get it replaced.

I also have the older Edison which I use about 2-3 times a year
and have had the EXACT same prob as you!!

Reason: poor craftmanship and below average quality.

Solution: You have to keep clicking the button 5-6 times in succession in order for it to enter either IN or BYPASS mode.

Depressing the button once will rarely initate action.

This unit serves ABSOLUTELY NO PURPOSE in any Home or Pro studio! It's a perfect tool for DJ's and re-mixers and widening the
stereo spectrum for T.V./Home 5 & 6.0 Surround Sound audio systems.
If used in recording, it's only useful purpose is providing a semi-spacious enhancement during certain panning techniques.

I have the Chinese one. I will try to get it replaced even though MISTERQCUE's post indicates it IS a common problem... I hope for better luck next time...

Honestly, I can't imagine it's anything but pure chance you two have the same problem. The same switches are used on zillions of other Behringer processors (all older non-PROs), and I never had any problems with those in any of my 10 or 11 units.

The Edison is not a must-have unit, but it can be useful for some things. I usualy insert it on a subgroup and route synth pads and sometimes delay returns on that group. You can use it for anything that you imagine wider than the band that's playing, eg. sampled orchestra, a choir etc. You can also use it on background vocals or sounds that shouldn't clutter the middle of the stereo field (e.g. above synth pads).
 
I got it replaced and the new one seems okay... except that the relay inside switches a couple of extra times every time you press the in/out button.... Hmmm.... So that button probably is the main problem on this model. But functionally this one works, so I think I will hold on to it... Thanks again everyone for your comments.
