Behringer DDX3216 Digital Mixer to ...

Essentially, no matter what, you need an interface (mixer) and a medium (tape, hard drive, whatever).

All a digital mixer does is give you digital control and a digital interface to record to your medium (ADAT in this case).

If you want to record 10 tracks to a laptop, you need an interface (USB, firewire, PCMCIA) with 10 inputs and then some sort of multi-track software (Nuendo, Cubase, maybe N-track?).

Assuming that you're going to have some condensers in there, you'll need an interface that supplies phantom power (unlikely) or separate preamps or a mixing console that does.

Hope that helps...

Thanks for the reply.

<<All a digital mixer does is give you digital control and a digital interface>>

Does this mean that there is no A/D conversion going on in the digital mixer?

If so, what are the benefits of a digital mixer over a good analogue mixer?

In a digital mixer, the A/D conversion is handled in the mixer. The converters may be better, they may not. The preamps may be better, they may not.

It DOES give you full recall on recording and mixing settings which is a wonderful thing...

I know this is an old post but I have some questions and this has helped me a little so far.. I just want to verify my belief based on the info above.

Whether I went with a Behinger DDX3216 digital board or a Behringer 2442FX-Pro, I would still need something like a Delta 1010 or similar PCI/Fire wire/USB based device to cominucate the mutiple tracks to the PC?
