Behringer C2 Condenser Mic

Yes.

The self noise of this electret capsule mic is fairly loud (too loud for solo acoustic guitar recording for example) and the high end has a pappery fizzyness without even being highly detailed.

I tried changing a couple of signal path components and modifying the capsule case in front of the diaphragm but got no appreciable improvement.

The small barrel mic cases with XLR connectors, and plastic stereo bar are worth saving for some future DIY project. Perhaps I'll stick some Linkwitz-mod Panasonic WM-61 capsules in there.

The hunt for the $25 small diaphragm condenser goes on ;)

Misinformation galore ! ! !

Quote 2 "It is likely that this is a transsound capsule."

Where do you guys get this crap from?

Behringer's specifications for this mic say - -
Transducer type: true condenser, 16mm (0.63") single diaphragm.

Check out the fabulous MSH-1A SDC, a little less expensive and probably much better sounding. There are more clips here.

There are a couple Interesting Facts about the Behr C2, It isn"t a True Ballanced Mic as the Impedance on pin 2 and Pin 3 are quite different which make the CMMR of Ballanceing non existant which is why poeple allways complain about the Noise of these Mics but there are some very easy mods that can be done that will Lower the Noise considerably and make it a True Impedance Ballanced Output with Good CMMR....

Check out the Mods here:

Anybody have a link to the Behringer C2 mod?

Hello,

I've got a pair of Behringer C2's that I'd like to mod if it will help them sound better. They aren't my main overhead mics (I've got a pair of Oktava MC-012's that sound far better), but I thought this might be a fun project and a good learning experience for me. I found this thread, but the link is dead--does anyone know where I can find this?

Thanks,

Jon

Found it

I kept looking and finally found a live link for it. I tried to post the URL here in my post, but it won't let me because I'm a newbie. But you can Google search "Behringer C2 Modification" and it should come up as about the fourth or fifth link in the list that says "Nieuwe pagina 1".

According to the article:

As a reaction on my findings about this microphone, Behringer has redesigned the electronics of it. After mid 2007 all C2 microphones will be delivered with fully balanced output circuitry

So I guess if you have the newer model, this isn't applicable.

I have some behringer c-2s. They do have some noise if you pump up the gain. I think they are good though

I recorded this entire song with my c-2s. I used minimal plugins except reverb on my voice I think. No eq i don't think either. I'm pretty sure I used one of the c-2's for vocals too (this was a while ago but i think I was determined to try and make an entire acoustic version of one of my songs with just the c-2s:

I would like to learn how to mod it but I'm pretty sure I would mess something up however you do it.

oh and check out another thread that monkey allen started, he uses c-2s for some recordings and I think there are some useful tips and info about them:
