Behringer B2031A Monitor opinions, servo balance question

I am currently researching mid priced active monitors, leaning towards the Behringer B2031A Truth. Any opinions on these, sound, tone, freq. response, flexibility? They seem to have several set up options, boost/cut switches, filters, etc. Another questions is, my console only has unbalanced outputs and B2031A's only have balanced inputs, servo balanced, XLR and TRS 1/4" but not RCA or standard 1/4" unbalanced. Will this be a problem? If I use short run cables (which won't be a problem) will the unbalanced cable/signal create noise or hum?
thanks for any advice.

I have the true B2031A. I've had it for bout 3 monthst now. and one of the tweeters is making making a staticy noise. great now im going to have to ship it to get it fixed. its about 33 LBS for one.

I also owned a pair of the B2031As. I got an ungodly amount of radio interference coming through on the tweeters, and I was going to have to pay to get brand new monitors fixed. No thanks. I sent them back and got Alesis M1 MkIIs instead and I don't have any problems with them.

Behringer's quality control and customer service aren't up to snuff, so I wouldn't recommend their product, even though they did sound 'okay' for the price.

infamous for having RF problems - but some people don't get any, it just depends where you live. it can also be greatly reduced with additional ferrite clips.

balanced trs connections *always* accept unbalanced ts. correct me if i'm wrong.

balanced is always > than unbalanced, but i've run them unbalanced before and it's fine.

finally, the sound is reasonably flat, and they good for their price - but are by no means the best.

This answers some of my questions about balanced only vs. unbalanced, thanks.
Now, it seems like the Behringer monitors aren't getting much good opinions, which is why I asked, so having said that, Any other suggestions for a good pair in the same price range, active monitors with similar specs. I've thought about the Alesis M1 MkIIs, but am open minded to any other suggestions. Thanks again.

kick the mk1 mk2, the're kinda a proven budget monitor

Just wanted to counter the opinions on the behri's here. I've got a pair of 2030a's that have worked flawlessly and have given me some solid mixes. I Also know several others who own 2031a's and have had no issues with them whatsoever.

In the same price range I'd also check out the Yorkville YSM1P's, they sound a lot flatter and accurate to me than the 2031a's.

Bought a pair of Truth's couple of years ago. Fortunately these were one of the few Behringer product's that I didn't have an operational problem with (No static, RF, or build problems), but they are not very "Truth"ful. A bit harsh in the Mid-Highs (Even with the built in controls adjusted to compensate). I eventually moved on to Event TR-8XL's, but I still use my Truths for tracking guitars, because they really cut through in the upper-mids, but come final mix time, they're not even considered for the job.

also, beware gear with too many options
a pair of monitors built properly need no cute features

It's a coin toss for the Berry monitors. you may get a good pair or you may get a not so good pair. It's up to you. however I still like them. I dont know maybe the statice comes from my cheap piano sounds from my korg x3. but it only happens on one of the tweeters. However there is no noise when I play the guitar on them. I still like them. It's a little anoying sometime but I manage. But its your call though. I got them from Zzounds.com with no shipping and no taxes. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a 7.5

thanks everyone for the great feedback so now I'll pick your brains a little more.
The Alesis Mk1's were mentioned, been reading up on them, they seem the equal or hopefully better than the Behringers, also mentioned is Yorkville YSM1P's, haven't read anything on them yet. How about any other brands, like Tannoy, Yamaha, The Tapco stuff seems interesting, Samson, Event TR5 or TR8, M Audio, KRK Rokit's.....so many choices, any more advice and feedback is most welcome, I'm absorbing everything....keep it coming...

my theory is, never buy the newest thing
let other people test it for you

since this will be my first pair of 'real' monitors, which ones do you mean are 'the newest thing'?

over the last couple years, many modles of budjet monitor have come and gone

look for the ones that were devoloped at least a couple years ago, but you can still get them new

aka do your homework
