I am going to buy a condenser mic to record vocals with and I have to spend less that $200. I was looking at the Behringer B2 (multi-pattern), but I don't know how good it is. I was also looking at the Rode NT1A. Anyone have any advice?

I own a B-2 got it for like 115 off ebay....sounds great to me...and alot of people have loved the vocals Ive done with it....alot of people here hate behringer stuff....so im sure your gonna get some negative responses....seems like alot of other people like the mxl v67 might want to consider that...ive tried that too but like the b-2 better....plus the b-2 comes with the shock mount and nice case....

I have had a b-2 for about a month or two and I LOVE it. The clients never seem to have any complaints. I paid $150 for mine.

I have a b-2 pro and I love it. I use it for vocals and for one of my guitar mics.
you can hear it in action here on "What Happens next", and "Dear Lover"

Doesn't matter who's name is on it. It's made at 797 (they deny that, but it's true), uses one of the best of the Chinese capsules and doesnt sound bad for what it is.

The B2 pro was the frist LD mic I bought and did not have good results from this mic, it was harsh on everything I tried it on. Looking back alot of it had to do with my pre-amps built into my AW4416. I have had much better results from my AT4040 thru the same pre and others. I would look at AT and CAD for options.

Rumor has it...

...Rumor has it that when Rode stopped using 797 to manufacture the capsules and bodies for the NT2 (Rode starting making them in their own factory) Behringer bought up the remaining inventory of parts and thus the B2 was born...there's no question about the similarity of the 2 mics (I have owned both and they're nearly identical)...the Rode NT2 was instrumental in establishing Rode mics as serious contenders, while the Behringer B2 (and B2 Pro) continue to get the usual Behringer hate mail...my experience with my B2 Pro was that it was a very capable (though somewhat bright) mic...3 patterns, a case and shockmount for under $150. as well as 797's better build quality than most Chinese manufacturers, makes it a good buy for the home studio...

Thanks for all your help everyone...I'm a new guy, so it was nice to have some people actually answer my question directly and within 1 day. If there's anybody else with some actual recordings with either one of these 2 mics (Behringer B2 or R0de NT1A, or any other mic under $200 - I know there's a lot of them) please post them if you get time....that was really helpful...thanks everyone.

See my link in the "ADK Vienna Vs. Hamburg" thread. Lot's of other places like thelisteningsessions.com, etc...

I like the brightness that this mic has, and it's very containable with compression and eq, so it's never been a problem

Vocals in my signature were done with a B1 (degraded bit rate). I don't know how close the two mics are to one another.
