Alright, I'm not spamming for Studio Projects or Behringer, so just chill, okay.
But I got a chance to play with one of these recently, and I think I am on to something, here. Without sounding like a freakin' info-mercial, I think we have the new winner and reigning champion of budget conensers. Okay, so laugh at the Behringer name, but I am familiar with the Rode NT2 and think it's a great mic, albeit on the expensive side at $400. I'm familiar enough with it to know it's sound when I hear it and this thing sounds like it at 1/4 the cost. Unless my ears have completely betrayed me and I am a total dumbass, that is. Which is totally possible, I guess.
So I find out thing thing is basically a B-2 without the extra diaphragm and omnidirectional pattern. And the B-2 is basically a clone/ripoff of the NT2, and sounds identical to my ears. Except you pay $200 and part of that goes to the omnidirectional pattern -- something a lot of us don't need anyway (especially if we took Harvey's advice and bought Behringer's other kickass budget mic in the ECM 8000).
So it looks like Behringer decided to spare us the extra expense and come out with a single-diaphragm, single-directional version that basically has the same sound as a B2. Which has the same sound as the NT2, which kicks ass. And I guess they've decided to give us a case and a shockmount with it, too.
Now don't go thinking I'm some sort of Behringer implant. Heaven forbid. I just want to make sure I have this thread as proof that I was the first one to start shooting my mouth off about it. Because before long, every one of those annoying "Best LDC under $X?" questions will be answered with this microphone, followed by the Marshalls and SP's
. . . and you read it here first, damnit!
Give me my due!
So there ! Ppppppttttttt ! ! ! !!
