Does this mixer have the capability of handling a condensor mic (requiring phantom power) and an SM57 simultaneously? Isn't the phantom power applicable to all channels when turned on? Is it an alternative to turn the phantom power from the mixer off and use a separate mic preamp (eg ART Tube Pro) INTO one of the Behringer channels, with the phantom power on, in order to isolate the condensor? Or perhaps it's ok to turn the Behringer's phantom power on and simply turn the volume/gain on the SM57 channel down so as not to overload?

I have only recently purchased a condensor mic and have never had a need for phantom power.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

phantom power is just a DC voltage. it does not change the gain on a channel, and will have zero effect on your 57 as long as you are using a balanced XLR cable.

Makes perfect sense now that I think about it! Well, better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the reply!

if you have the ART Tube Pro, you probably want to use that on the condenser mic anyway compared to the Behringer MX pres. It will sound better!

but like has already been said, most dynamics (and I believe all Shures) are immune to phantom power if you are using an XLR cable.

The only thing you don't want to do is plug-or-unplug any mics while phantom power is on.

I've always heard this can cause damage.

How about non-XLR inputs (i.e. 1/4 jacks with POD's and other line-in devices)? Ok with phantom power on?

phantom power doesn't go to the 1/4 jacks so your safe there.
