I would like to start recording my guitar on the computer. Software is not a problem, but I would like to know my options for hardware (connecting guitar/recording).

Is there a better way than just getting an adapter from 1/4 to 1/8? I'd like to spend less than $200.
Maybe a new sound card that has 1/4 input? Maybe a USB interface?
Post links to products if possible.

THanks!

Something like Cakewalk would work with this?
Almost any recording software should work with it. Just make sure your computer is up to the Units Specs.

christiaan: I reccomend it for him because the only bad things I've heard about it are the bad preamps, which he won't be using anyway.
I've heard nothing but good things about it, minus the preamps.

One of those M-Audio Audiophile cards will prolly do the trick. They're around that cheap and they have a USB version I believe.

Just continuing with the topic...

I'm looking to get into computer recording as well, but would also like to add vocal tracks as well. Would the MobilePre work for this or is there something else you would suggest?

I'm working on a Dell 8300 (Windows XP) with Soundblaster Live (for what that's worth)

I'm really starting with little to no knowledge on the subject...Thanks in advance.

Since you'd like to record vocals, I'd reccomend the USB Mobile-Pre, and since the preamps are terrible (I've heard), I'd reccomend buying a seperate mic preamp.

You'd only need the pre-amp if your mic requires phantom power to work. If you get the SM-58 or any other dynamic mic, you don't need to worry about it.
