Well, I just installed ProTools on my brand new computer a few days ago. But the first time I opened it, it gave me the message "an unknown error occured." Turns out that the unknown error was error - 9161. There's absolutely nothing about that in the manuals or guides or ReadMe files, and I called tech support today, but they're closed until Monday, so I went to DigiDesign's website and found out was it could be.

Here's what I found:

I found that I have one of the chips on my soundcard that was made before 2000. It says that all of these chips come with software that is compatible, and the CD-ROM is titled "Pro Tools Installer #2" but my CD-ROM doesn't say that.

It says to verify that compatible versions of the Waves plug-ins are installed. Must have waveshell and waves plugins version 2.8.1 or later for Pro Tools 5.0 or 5.01. But, as far as I can tell, I don't have any Waves plugins installed.

It says to check DAE buffer settings. Generally Mix and d24 systems should be set to DAE Buffer Size 2. But it doesn't say anything about how to do that, so, does anyone know how to do that?

It says to update the DSP manager and Mixer plug-ins, but it says nothing about how to do that, so does anyone know how?

I ran the DigiTest on the cards, and when I did that, it said "Control Reg Test: Error #11," again, I found nothing anywhere about this error, not even on their website.

As you can probably tell, I'm not great with computers. Does anyone have any clue which, if any, of these is causing my problems or how to solve this problem or anything? ANY info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
