Hi all,

I'm new to homerecording and look forward to many hours of fun recording and communicating with other members on this forum.

I purchased a pentium2/400 128RAM 4 Gigabyte HD with yamaha SAx driver soundcard and am looking for advice on what's the best type of software to buy and upload onto my computer set up. I want to be able to mic up my guitar amp and acoustic guitar to record onto my computer then use promgrammed drums/bass from a software set-up so all the advice you can give to get me going would be great. Also would the cakewalk guitar studio 9 be a good choice in purchase for my set-up?

looking forward to your replies.

Theres plenty of software recording and editing programs out there. Frankly opinions all vary from person to person. Best thing you can do at this point is go to www.hitsquad.com and browse thru the listings of multitrack recording programs. Most of them have some version of a demo that you can download and play with to get a feel. Software can run you a mint so its good to explore several different ones to get a feel for it. An extremely popular program for beginning is N-tracks, which you can download at www.fasoft.com. N-tracks is pretty smooth and user friendly so it really helps with the learning curve. Added bonus is that it only costs $35 bucks if you decide you dig it.
Fruityloops is also a handy drum based program that will give you a grip of sounds and patterns you can create.

Welcome aboard

Don't know about specifically for guitars, but Cubase SX is supposed to be very good.

I agree. SX is very powerful and to me, seems more intuitive and is easier to learn than alot of other programs.
