Hi folks. I don't have any great equipment but here's what I'm hoping you can advise me on.

I've got two pcs here. An Athlon XP1800 (w/1gb ram) and another Athlon 1333 (w/512meg ram). Both do the exact same thing when I'm trying to record anything: the recorded audio has a ticking sound all the way through it?!?!

This happens when I use a 'line in' source AND when I record audio played from a website (ie myspace).

I usually use cool edit pro or audacity to do the actual recording, but as this is happening on both machines, I'm stumped.

Any suggestions? (Other than buy a better machine :D )
Thanks in advance
Pete

this sounds to me like a clocking issue, or maybe even a hard drive issue.

In your recording software's preferences look for something like "playback timing master" and "record timing master" and be sure both of these are set to your sound card. See if that helps.

I checked for an option like that but didn't see anything. However, it's probably worth mentioning that this happens even when recording silence (no signal coming into the sound card at all)

See attached for a screen cap example...... this is silence (on both machines)

You probably have some driver doing too much work in a deferred procedure call. Try disabling drivers (wireless drivers in particular) until the problem goes away.
