Before using Cubase for the first time - any pointers?

A friend of mine has very kindly offered me an old PC of his with Cubase on it to see if I like it, before I splash out on a shiny new copy of my own.

Does anyone have anything I could read before starting out to familiarise myself with the features?

Is there a Users Guide in .pdf or anything freely available?

Any hints/tips/warnings for me?

I currently use a Tascam 788, Ibanez RG440 through Pod 2.0, V-Drums (TD8)
and a Yamaha PSR 295 and my reason for wanting Cubase (or other program) is to be able to edit my tracks via MIDI and explore virtual instruments and stuff.

Any help much appreciated, as always.

(P.S I would just ask my friend but he never really got to grips with it and hardly records anything anymore - I figure I'll be better off starting from scratch...)

There's a pdf help file on the disk that you should read a few times and get real familiar with. That will answer most of your questions before you ask.
