Well, I got a last minute call to master some stuff for a guy before I leave for San Francisco.

The artists name is Vince Tognetti. He is a keyboard player, and aspiring engineer. The music he is writing right now is geared towards radio jingles, movie soundtrack, and news shows back ground music.

Anyway, all the stuff was short 1-2 minute cuts. All electronic keyboard sequenced stuff mixed through a OV1 mixer. He gave me permission to post some of his stuff. But it IS copyrighted... :)

Anyway, this one is not the best cut, or the best mix, but it sure enjoyed the most gain increase of all the cuts. The noise added was the trade off for increasing the RMS level a bunch. We thought the trade off of increased gain with a little more noise was worth it. The mp3 has the before and after within the same file.

Enjoy. I will probably post a couple more in a couple of weeks after I get back from the Bay Area.

What the heck, they are so short. Here is the links to 5 of the 9 cuts.
- 1.53MB, 192kbs mp3 file
- 1.37MB, 192kbs mp3 file
- 1.85MB, 192kbs mp3 file
- 2.35MB, 192kbs mp3 file
- 2.90MB, 192kbs mp3 file

Only Dark Time is a before and after mastering mp3. The rest are the mastered versions.

Again, enjoy. If any of you all know of any news stations, or movie producers who may be interested in any of this, well, let me know so that I can raise my rates for mastering with this guy.... :)

All the stuff was very quiet. None of it ever actually peaked at digital zero, and RMS levels were pretty low.

He mixed everything from the Yamaha console through S/PDIF to a Sony DAT (consumer grade).

No analog synth tones anywhere. He does have an Akia sampler and a few of the patches are stuff he created with it.

Nice analog synth tones there.

And that's EchoSTAR, not EchoSTART studios in that last link... :)

BTW: how did his raw stuff stack up just in terms of perceived volume to my usual fare?
What format did he mix down to?

I was just talking about the "style" of synth patches used. A couple sounded like they were straight off an old Moog. Those samplers always looked like they'd be a lot of fun.
