Been awhile guys.. but here's a rockish tune ya might dig.

This is a rough mix I rushed to put together over this week to give to someone today, since it's somewhat of a "love song", thus the more gothic rock vibe but it has some metal elements to it to and will be on my album next month. There is an obvious splice point in the last half where I looped something together, that'll change when I get to redo it.. and probably some mix issues, I'd just like to hear what you guys think it needs if anything, and of course, your overall thoughts.. what you DID like, and all that. Thanks.

I like the melodic, laid back vocal on top of very heavy guitar. But when the heavy guit.s are going, i have a hard time hearing the vocals. You have a lot going on in there. It moves well, very steady, maybe too steady. Can't say a lot regarding procuction since I don't listen to much in this style, but it sounds polished.

you're probably right, I need some little change in there to add some more dynamics.. good constructive comments

Nice work on the structure. The guits are just so dominant that it doesnt leave much headroom for the vocals to work dynamicaly. The tracking was apparently clean and big and reflected in the mixdown. Drums are good, i`d bring up the bass a little and take the guits down some. The change from crunch to picking was kinda abrupt and startling, probably intended. A multitap delay on that last note fading over the picking coming in sort a stuck in my mind to offset that abruptness. singing good, just not enough headroom for it to stand out. cool stuff.

a bud of mine said that the guitars need to come UP in the chorus, the rhythms that is.. so could you be more specific, I mean do they all seem too loud to you?

Interesting stuff. Nice beefy guitar sound.... Marshall I presume? I dug the vocals, but the guitars did overpower them in places.
My only major complaint would be the drums. Sorry, but I can't stand drum machines! It's a personal taste thing, but a real drummer on this song would help it out a whole lot.

Great effort, though.

Actually it is not a drum machine, I did use samples but kind of did it "by hand".. I know they need more though, by the time I am finished with my drum tracks they are usually fairly solid. It's the lack of tom and cymbals and certain oddities here and there where the swing doesn't seem solid. Is there something about the tone though and not necessarily the performance? I notice your drums have a lot less of a direct feel, more room ambience.. but hey, to me, that's a preference. Surely the hi-hat at least doesn't sound like a drum machine?!

The amp's not a marshall, it's actually a v-amp.

Well, for a V-amp, that's damn impressive.

As for the drums, hey, a machine, or hand programmed samples, it's in the same ballpark. The cymbals were pretty horrid, but the snare gave it away, it was just too one-dimensional. The hat wasn't bad, but it wasn't human either. There's just no substitute for a real drummer.

As for my stuff having "room ambience" that's kinda funny, because I don't use room mics. There IS a large reverb on the snare, tho.... it's long and large to match the tempo. Usually the stuff I do is so damned fast I never get to use big reverbs. This song was the exception.

Anyway, good luck with the tune!

The hat wasn't human? Funny, last I checked I was a human. :)

What I meant about the room ambience is that it sounds more distant and not so direct. Of course reverb is one of the main ways to accomplish that.

With everything panned hard right and left theres no center. It sounds out of phase.

Then it must be for some other reason, I don't have anything panned hard..

Yes, but tell the truth now... did you play the hat all the way thru the song, or did you do a lot of copy/paste?

Only one area was copy/pasted and that is the last minute - and that was out of necessity, being that I changed the structure around there.

btw, to that other dude.. what do you mean about phasing? I've got no clue..
