Hey guys,

I haven't been able to record for a while, due to a few plumbing mishaps. :(

Finally got set up to record. The room's still new to me, and I moved everything around, so this is really the first time recording in this room...again. :)

This is kind of a weird song, I guess. It's got 3 pretty much un-related parts. But I hope it works. A neighbor had a 12-string that he wanted me to re-string for him, so I took the opportunity to record with it. But, since I had to play it up-side-down, I kept it to a minimum. :D

I need help with the mix. I can't tell any more if the drums are too loud, or if the overheads are too loud, but the kik is too low, etc....

Thanx and peace out.:D

RISE UP

You have some interesting elements combined in this song-the initial segment sounds like trippy 60's music-kind of Jefferson Airplane style. It then reminds me of 70's bands-Styx, Head East, and a touch of Kansas maybe..
The Kick is pretty low, but it sounded fine to me, overheads on the intro part were loud and the level could be dropped a bit.
The slide part on the Strat using the in between-out of phase switch position sounded really fine, a nice change from the bass heavy slide tone the Allman Brothers made famous.
12 strings are fun to add for texture-that natural chorus can sound very cool in the mix.

Love the reverse reverb. It's a little loud but very cool use of it.

Vox can come up a bit. They're a little too low, but just barely.

Drums sound mostly pretty awesome. In some spots the snare jumps out a little much, but sits fine in others. Overheads and kick sound fine.

Cool mixture of stuff. I don't really think the drums are too loud, however the vox seem to be a little low in general, but fairly noticeable(low) in others. The slide sounds great in there. What's that cheesy vocal effect :D j/k. Very good tune RAMI.

Thanx alot Anfontan and Greg.

I'm re-mixing it as we speak. My first mix for my tunes is always a bit off, after all the tracking and listening. I'm adjusting the drum volume, and turning down the reverse reverb parts. I'm going to leave the vocals where they are for now, but will raise them if the consensus is that they're too low.

Thanx, duders!

Thanx Riffmaster. OK, so I'm starting to lean towards turning up the vocals. I wanted them low in the second part, but didn't think they were low in the third part. But, if they are, I'll turn them up. Thanx, man.

(I'm not sure what vocal effect you're talking about. I got the "j/K", but I don't know what you're referring to) :)

Glad to hear you've got your recording/playing space back again. The downtime was obviously not wasted as you've come up with another gem of a rocker.

I like the three parts, though different in themselves, blend together is a beginning/middle/end kind of story.

Your now signature vocal harmonies are outstanding and are now competing with your musicianship for favorite part of the song.

The room sounds solid and your recording is equal in quality to anything I've heard recently from you.

Great tune Rami! :D:cool::D:cool:

I really appreciate that, Ido. I'm relieved that this room sounds OK. It's pretty small and I treated it pretty well. But I was scared, especially for the drums, because of the 7' ceiling.

I re-mixed the tune and up-loaded a new version based on some of the comments I got above. The same link in my first post will take you there.

I agree. Ramrod always has awesome backing vox and harmonies.

Sorry RAMI, I can't listen at present. I have to go through a proxy at present as HR was completely blocked through my ISP. the proxy has a 4 meg limit so I can't listen. Is it on your site? I'll go to RAMI land & get an ear full there.
Plumbing - is that a ehuphemism for something?
Cheers

Downloaded from your home site RAMI whilst I listened.
Very, very cool..
The harmonies are, as Ido said, signature swish.
Are you using a different plectrum for bass? Is that pick slap I hear in the fist section?
The additional percussion in the last section work a treat.
The room sounds good from my perspective.
Cool as...

Rami!

I was trying to find some nits, but is not easy:D

"C" part (1:55)
I agree with Greg comments about vox up a bit more...is difficult to suggest where to change, the 12 string has a "complex" tone, maybe is "fighting" with mid vocal frequencies,my suggestion is to try eq (mids) on gtr and vox to find the "point".

What fucking great bridge (01:41)! Reminds me the early Queen albuns, killer!!!

A fatter bass guitar on the same "C" part would be an option,
but still working the way it is.Kick is fine.

Congrats, but is the second song on this room, not first, right?Or you moved
again?:eek::D

Ciro

Super cool, man.

A nice, progressive piece.

I don't know if it was on my side, but either the whole mix, or maybe just the drums sounded a bit hot--a bit of a light distortion on the transients.

Otherwise sounded pretty rich and thick. Mmmmm.

Thanx alot, Ray. I'm using the same big, hard, purple Dunlop I always use on the bass. I play everything with that.:)

(The drums for your tune are next, by the way);)

Thanx, Ciro. I brought the vocals up on the re-mix. I'm really not comfortable turning my voice up any more than that. I find the guitars in the 3rd part are fighting each other a bit. This vagueness might be why it seems the vocals can come up.

This IS the second tune I do in this room, but I moved everything around, so it was like starting over again, with my speakers and drums in a different place, etc....

Thanx Incanus. I'll re-check the level, but when I "Faux-Master", I'm not obsessed with volume, so I'd be surprised if it's too hot. But you never know. Thanx for the comment, buddy. :)

I got here after the remix. I like the reverse reverb. I can see why you were asking about it in that other thread. I think it fits nice. Of course, I don't hear anything wrong with it at all. I am into the second movement, and have nothing at all out of place.

Cool tune, as always.

man, this is great! i really like how the song progresses (reminds me of my songwriting process a bit--may explain why we like each others' stuff despite the stylistic differences). i notice you call it "rise up parts 3, 5, 9." are these merely "movements" in a larger piece that you have yet to complete? if so, how do you know where they'll fit? (i'm referring to your numbering system)

i really love that drum fill before the solo in "part c."

not liking the reverse reverb, sorry.

vox are really remarkable. musical performance is super-tight. great kick/bass guitar mix--solid rhythm section!

Thanx alot, Rocketman. I feel bad that I couldn't contribute any drums to your tunes. As you can see, it wasn't for lack of wanting to. I wasn't able to record all summer.

Thanx alot, Dross. I really appreciate that. As far as the numbering in the title, I'm just being a dick. There are no other parts. I was inspired by "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35", which has nothing to do with the tune. :D

lol, i'm kinda disappointed! the song stands on its own just fine, but after i thought about the numbering, i got all jacked up for some rami epic!!! :D

Good to see you back, Duder! You had me worried. It's not like you to disappear like that. Glad to see all is ok.

I love the beginning. The transitions are really neat. Nice job! Your vocals are impeccable, as usual. Harmonies are perfect. This is a different sound for you and it fits you good! There's something different about the drum sound that I can't quite put my finger on. Nothing bad, just different than I'm used to hearing from you.

You, sir, are a writing/recording/producing machine!
