Hi Everyone,

I recorded this song using Sonar, a Mackie 24-8 Mixer and a Korg PA-80 for the music. It's for a compilation album of female singers. The singer has a lovely voice but she is a bit off beat at times and I feel I lose her voice from time to time. Any suggestions how I can bring in a swell of strings without drowning her out? Also, should I do away with the intro and use the bridge "ah ah ah" as an intro?

Thanks,
Shana

I can't open it. Might be my computer. I'll wait and see if anyone else can.

OK, got it working, it was my computer.

Well, she can definitley sing. You might want to compress her voice a bit more so that you can bring it up without the louder parts being too loud. To me, it just sounds like the song has such a wide range that the lower notes are almost out of her natural key and she has trouble getting them out, like the low notes are too low for her to sing with any power. But I don't find her voice being buried at any time.

Starting with the bridge (la la la la) might be a great idea. It would definitely get the listener's attention more than just the piano intro does.

Very nice, by the way.

I agree that she can sing and that her vocal needs more compression.

What kind of mic did you use to record her? In the lower ranges she starts to sound a bit nasally.

I'm gonna start with the ah ah part. The other intro is typical, we've heard it before. I'll try the vox with less reverb. Maybe clone the track and leave one totally dry so that way the vox stay audible throughout the song. She can sing but it sounds demo-ish because her timing is a drop off here and there. Im gonna try to get her to come in a record some parts again. Also, I'm gonna re-do the strings part, replace them with a cello, so the sounds dont mush together.

I used a AGK $200 mike.

It's so hard to record other people!!!!

I agree - compress this a bit to bring up the low spots.

Maybe a bit less reverb on the vocals.

Not sure how to bring in a swell except up the vocals or eq them so they don't get buried by the keyboards when the do come in.

Maybe retrack and comp to get the best of the lower notes.

I like the arrangement as it is but the changes would also be good.

Excellent voice - pass my compliments on to the singer.....

:D

This reminded me of the lion king or something, she has a nice voice, sounded ok to me, i wouldn't know where to start with something like this. sorry.
