I was reading another post where someone replied that the only way to get better at your craft is to challenge yourself and others. So i was thinking that just for fun and motivation is there any way that we can set up a beat competition. just wondering what you guys think cuz trust me i know there is a shitload of talent in this HIP-HOP forum alone. any takers??

I know a lot of us stay busy with different projects. I myself am busy with the Hustle Magic compilation CD as well as my own album, but I do agree that the only way that you improve your skills is to challenge yourself. That also can keep you from being a carbon copy of someone else.

Not a bad idea though.

yeah i feel you, i just wish that we can get something like this toghether though. maybe sometime in the future when everyone gets a little time.

Or just for fun find a sample, post it here and see what people come up with :)

Yo Cell, I'm down to do it, like you said just for fun. No cash prizes or anything just a friendly challenge. As soon as we get enuff people down, we'll post a sample. Once the sample is posted, how much time should we allow? I think a week is good, or do you think we should allow more time?

I LIKE THIS IDEA MORE. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN BEAT COMPETITONS KIND OF RUIN A FORUM YOU GET HALF ASS PEOPLE COMING JUST FOR THE COMP BUT NEVER STAYING TO IMPART KNOWLEDGE. OR SIGNING UP AND NO SHOWING SO THE FORUMS STARTS TO GET THE REP OF BEING UNRELIABLE. FLIPPING A SAMPLE TO ME IS BETTER. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION THO

What about the guys that dont like to sample??? Whats up with an original beat contest?

I don't like to sample much. How about just doing a straight beat competition, see how everything goes and then later on down the line start doing east coast, west coast, down south, and sampled beat competitions? Me personally I would say that someone should find a highly reputable site that has beat competions and we all register to the forum and agree to jump in a competition together one category at a time. The reason I say this is because I personally don't think it would be a good idea to flood this forum with people wanting to compete especially when they don't even know how to program a drum pattern yet. Going to a well established site would be cool because we can go there compete with others as well as ourselves and then come back here and post threads for ourselves to critique each other on the seperate battles. That's just my opinion.

We can just start one thread where we keep track of all of our battles from the other website so that we don't have a whole bunch of different threads popping up to check out someone's battle. We can even break the threads up to reflect the different battles that the website features such as; Dirty south beat battle thread, East coast beat battle thread.........

I'm just trying to keep things well planned and organized plus I think it would be fun to compete with more than just the handfull of dedicated members here.

My bad, I didn't read the posts. You all pretty much covered what I had to say.

Well let's try the sample thing first

What up people i'm back after a good night's rest. Thanks for all the input from you guys. Now i really like the sampling idea. This should be a good way to see what people can do with a certin sound(sample) and it will really let everybody get a chance to view different creative tastes. I also think that a week is more than enough time to finish up a track for this. Now my only other question i have for ya'll is where can we find a good sample that everyone agrees on, or if anyone has one in mind please point it out. once again thanks fam for all the feedback, i think this will be real fun. holla back

a Jug, not to step on your toes with the sampling thing, but I think that your idea would be a great way to start round 2 of the competition if people are still willing to participate. thanks for the input man :)

I was in some drum & bass forum a long while back, and they did a comp where you got one break, and the challenge was to make as much of an entire song as possible with only using that one sample. Of course they used the Amen break.

Just an idea. We could do something like that. Give one break sample and see what you can do with it.
