lol as many of you know i'm a noob at this stuff. But i have a chance for a huge steal on these M-Audio bx5a's. I'm wondering, if i want to just start out, should i be greedy and buy them? or save up for when i'm more advanced

Depends on what a steal is. If your getting these for close to nothing then by all means go ahead. But check around ebay for prices and see how much of a steal they are. I have the 8's and I like them. Everyone runs into gear at five finger prices, so if its a steal then by all mean steal away.

Gotta almost TOTALLY disagree with stealth_prod. If any gear has been stolen, and/or you have good reason to believe it is, DON'T TOUCH IT. Oh, so many reasons to stay away- damages your karma, disrespectful to other artist/recording people, encourages/supports thiefts, can get YOU arrested, etc. etc. etc.

If someone's just unloading their legit own gear for stupid prices, you gotta ask yourself, "Why?" but if there is a good reason (NOT "it's stolen," or something is seriously wrong with it but not disclosed, etc.) then sure, grab it- but if it blows up in your face (figuratively or literally,) I will take great pleasure in saying "I told you so!":D

Stevieb , when people talk about getting something for a steal, aren't they usually just using a slang term that means 'cheap' or 'a good deal' ?

yup ........ I didn't see anything that seemed to mean the stuff was stolen.

yeah i meant a cheap price lol

Well, okay, then. Just the reply before mine seemed to suggest that you should buy it even if it was hot. Could have just been the way I read it...

The statement five finger prices certainly does imply theft. The term five finger discount means shop lifting specifically.

The only thing that I've ever stolen was ........

KISSES

"nick" means acquire at a discount price

OK its doesnt...its a fair cop guvnor :)

LOL well I guess I apologize then...In no way did I imply or try to imply that theft is ok. Five finger aka another name for steal yes, but I was just trying to not use "steal" 25 times in a paragraph. I guess my bad. (Felt like I just got stopped by the pOlice.)

Also "five finger prices" was taken way out of context. If I would have said "as long as your getting it from the guy behind the music store in the alley, with the gear in a trunk of a car" I could definitly see the need to strike down the hand of fury, but I think you took it a little to serious.
