Can anyone enlighten me as to what the new BBE Sonic Maximizer for DirectX is?

I received an email ad from Cakewalk that this is now available for $99.00. It will make EVERYTHING sound better!!!
I have Pro Audio 9 and Sonor and now this comes up. I'm happy so far with what I'm doing, but will I miss a revolution if I don't jump on this?
I just want to know if this is as good as it sounds.

I will be travelling next week and won't be able to reply for a while, but appreciate any info you can give. Thanks

Dan

The $99 piece of software is the direct-x plug in version of the rackmount unit.

A sonic maximizer simply plays with the stereo seperation of the signal fed into it as well as the EQ settings, and creates an appeasing effect that most people like. In most cases, assuming you aren't feeding it a bad recording, it adds a little warmth and color to the sound if used moderately.

The direct-x version plugs into cakewalk, rather than through patch cords on your console.

no kidding!

I have a rackmount version of the BBE 362NR and wouldn't sell it for the world! It's made a night and day difference with my mixes. I've been hoping they'd do a plug-in sooner or later. I don't know if it will work as well as the rackmount, but I'm willing to give it a spin.

Dan, would you mind forwarding me that email?

frederic,
Is it worth its' weight?

Thanks, Dan

I can't vouch for the direct-x version... but the 1U rackmount units come in several variety and I have a few of them. I use them mostly with mixes that end up on cassette where we all know the sonic quality of a cassette recording is not quite as crisp as on a CD, MP3 or DAT.

Like most processors, if used in moderation, they produce astounding results. The BBE units are no exception.

I liked the sound the the my friends got with their external units but my studio is just about exclusively digital these days. I purchased the plug in and have liked it so far.

rjt so u recommend the plug-in? is it a steal @ $99?

also whats the deal wit the VST plugin adapter

I don't know if it is a steal at $99, (what does hardware go for??) But I am doing an accoustic piano/cello album. I put it on some of the solo piano tracks and it sounded really good. I have heard my friends use it (hardware ones) on guitars and it sounded good. I am not sure if you could get the same effect with deft EQing and comb filter seperation etc. The web site said the effect had to do with phasing etc (much like they did on cakewalk web site). I am pretty sure this is one effect I will use.
