What condensers could you recommend that can use both phantom power and battery.
I know Shure's PG81 can do this. Any others?
Cheers!

I've got RODE NT3, I really like it, and you can power it with a battery.

That mic looks great, and at a killer price. Read a couple of reviews, and it seems to work well.
Anyone has experience with MCA SP2's?
Cheers!

I didn't get much response when I asked about it a few months ago.

I wound up buying mics from Studio Projects and a preamp with phantom power. One of the mics I got was a B1 for $79, and it includes a shock mount. Nice mic.

Do you really need the battery power?

..

APL, that Rode looks great. A little too high for my budget though.

ATM I don't have a "decent" mixer board, so no phantom power supply. I checked out at my local store, and a 2 mic phantom power box is $115. I currently use a Shure prologue 16A condenser mic, it is battery powered, and haven't had any prob with it. So if I buy another condenser, it would be nice to have that double feature. Down here (El Salvador), recording gear is really expensive, so it's not that easy getting properly equipped. I'm a musicians friend customer, so I guess I will order it there.
Thanks for your repplies.
Cheers!

Thanks. I found it for $99 on clearance at Guitar Center. Here's nice little mixer with phantom power, the $100 Yamaha MG10/2.

Thanks again APL.
One Q: can you plug in mics in the stereo channels? even if they don't have gain controls, or preamps?
Here's the dilemma, I have currently an 8 mic setup, for recording drums.
Do I need an 8 channel mono + stereo channels, or any mixer with 8 total channels would do?
Eg: that Yamaha has 4 mono channels and 2 stereo, so instead of calling it a "10" channel mixer, for me it's a 6 real channel mixer.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers!

Dont forget the CAD E-series. (E100/e200/e300)

They take 9volt or NiCad batteries (I would recommend using NiCad) and I have owned both an E200 and have an E100 now.

I havent yet used the e100 on battery but the e200 worked (and sounded) great using only the battery. The e100 is a great sounding (mostly neutral) and very versitile mic. I use it for bass drums/bass cabs/ guitar cabs and amps/snare/ and even vox.

I also have a Rode NT3 and its a handy mic but truthfully not the most versitile as it has a very pronounced presence peak and can sound downright brittle on some things. .... also the NT3 is hypercardiod only.
