wow, i'm amazed,
last year i spent alot of time building a simple vocal booth that i can transform into a drumbooth, spent enough money on it and all it does it kill the nasty reflections of my bedroom,

this year i started building basstraps, pure improvisation with stuff i found on my attic,
found wood, some black canvas, and rugged fiberglass,

now i got basstraps in three corners of my room and WOW
i suddenly hear stuff at around 40-80 hertz !
thats the first time in 22 years i experience that in here !

the costs were $0 and the improvement is noticable,

i just wonder, the fiberglass is more than 20 years old,
my dad used it to isolate our attic when they built our house,
hope that doesn't matter?

and its so impressive to tell my "costumers" that i built these things myself and what they do with the sound, looks nice and professional too :d

BETTER THAN ANY LAVA LAMP !!!!!

and it was fun to build them, i'm gonna search some more wood & canvas and i'll start building four more

i advice EVERYONE to build some, ripp some fiberglass out of the walls/ceiling of your garage and use it in your studio :D

when i play my drums it seems like the room is a bit larger, doesn't sound like a garage at all,,,but the snare sounds different then it used to, better in my opinion,
especially during mixdowns and playback of music (even mp3s) i notice the difference

just wanted to let u guys know

So you took insulation out of the attic to make bass traps? So there is a section of your attic un-insulated? That's not good...

I would highly recommend buying insulation to put back in the attic. And I would definitely not recommend taking insulation out of spots it's in to use for bass traps. :P Ya see, us studio-minded people think insulation is for audio purposes, but the rest of the world has this crazy idea that insulation is to stop thermal transfer between spaces.

Ding!

You're finally NOT hearing the room and all the overhang it gives in the bottom end. Now you see why pretty much everyone recommends starting with broadband bass control. Even if you had to pay for the materials, isn't it still the best bang for the buck you'd have ever done to improve your sound?

it IS the best bang for the buck (or euro)

when i buy a comressor i know i'm not gonna be amazed with the sound,
most of the time i'm happy if its clean,
i'm always looking for a WOW effect and now i GOT IT !

but its so weird, its hard to believe that four pieces of isolation in a frame can do all this, i'm gonna try to recommend some of my friends with homestudios to do the same,,,but its difficult,
its cooler to dream of a new compressor or new mic

my next step is building stands for my monitors,
they're standing too close together, and a little too close to my ears i think,
in other studio's its so easy to hear a good stereo balance and seperation ...
when u pan something left and right "in my room" u can hardly hear the sound move.... in real studio's you can like follow the sound with your eyes and point at it with your finger,,,,, i want that too in here

this week i'm gonna hang out in some studios where the accoustics are GREAT but the equipment sucks,
i'm gonna measure the distance between the speakers with my arms;
thats gonna look weird to the engineers over there, but hell,
my arms are my measuring tools

anyways, dont worry about the insulation in the attic ! héhé
we had some SPARE stuff laying around,

but anyway, Music first, safety second ;)
